Tee's explanation

And that's ok but he had made that promise before he made a trip to Tenn; therefore, being a man of his word he knew before hand that he wasn't going to accept a job here. If he respects Tenn that much he could have declined the job before making a big news splash and further emberassing the Vols. IMO just more of Kiffen's media play crap

Exactly! This REEKS of classic Kiffin media pandering. If Tee is a "man of his word" like he states he knew he was never taking the job. Either way he handled the entire situation poorly.

My guess:
There was an invite.
Tee was interested and even brought the whole family.
Something fell through during talks.
Tee makes a statement to make it look like he wasn't about to abandon his current team and school, he had to save face.

I think Tee found out our big 3 are leaving.

Will someone please explain to me why people are freaking out so hard about not getting Martin. I must be missing something because I thought he was only a WR coach. Surely people are going mad because he's the only person in the world that can coach WR...

Because he and kiffin made UT look bad again.

Yeah, because he doesn't have a family or anything to think about either.

What? What doss that have to do with my comment?
Tee can stay with my blessing. But when u start talking about loyalty and commitment regarding LK you've obviously got memory issues. Tee handled it poorly and his comments are coach speak that are ignorant of LK's dropping UT like a bad habit, which collapsed the program.

GUys,

This is such coach speak think about it.

If you were interviewed for a position and were interested and recieved an offer.
Whether you got a bad vibe on the interview or for whatever reason you decided to stay. It could have been for his family, or he did not get the offer he wanted, etc.

If you decided to stay would you not spin it with this coach speak to make it look good for you in the future with future employers, recruits, etc.

I can see him tell Kiffin " I have decided to stay" and Kiffin saying " Ok, we whould spin it to make it look good to recruits."

The real reason we may never know. But we know something prevented it from happening. I have a hard time believing he just wanted to stay since he was committed. That is coach speak. Anyone knows if a coach gets a better offer then you can't blame him for leaving and breaking his commitment with the players.

There are better coaches anyways.
Lane will be fired next year anyways watch and see!

Its good Tee has personal integrity, but maintaining loyalty to a coach that would sell his sister for a dollar is NOT someone to be tied to... Kiffin would slice Tee's throat to better his own coaching career...Sad Tee doesn't see that.....Tee should have turned down the job IMMEDIATELY when it was offered..What was he possibly thinking he would hear/see that would change his thinking based on his comments....I wouldn't spit on Kiffin if he was on fire...Let Tee tie his coaching prospects/career on this California Flake....time to move on....:clapping:

^agree

It's great that Tee has loyalty to his current coach. But on the other hand that coach showed disloyalty and disrespect to Tee's alma mater. Either way you look at it, we still dont get Tee:cray:

Tee Martin to remain USC assistant - Yahoo! Sports

''At the end of the day, I am a man of my word. I promised Coach Kiffin when I was hired at USC that I had goals I wanted to accomplish here. We still have work to do here to reach those goals. I see a great future at USC with the players on our roster and the recruits we have coming in."
Tee if you gave your word why did you even consider breaking it ? The future is bright at usc ? The program came very close to receiving the Death Penalty.
Stay true to yourself so you won't leave there with the stain of kiffy and his henchmen on your life. :mega_shok: Time to move on VN!

I'm glad our university produced a man honorable enough to continue pursuing the promises he laid out when hired.

Sure...and who can blame him for wanting to get a couple of days vaca in the process. Come out to Kville, check things out, feign interest, then fly back and say that he really needs to keep his promise to Lane. Sorry, all the best to Tee but the whole thing wreaks to me.

Well I guess someone on that USC staff has to have some "integrity" to stick to a job for longer than a year. Cause you know noone else on that staff will stick around. It's the pot calling the kettle black.

im gonna die laughing for the loser gets fired next year...and tee martin scratching his head what do i do...butch jones "close the doors"

The more I review this situation the more it bugs me.
First, I remember how we all cringed when Tee went to work for that nut. Is there really any question about the character of LK? whether he could coach or not isn't the issue.
2nd- If tee made a committment, why flirt with the job to the extent that you bring your entire family?
3rd- Hate to play the family card. But if my 11 year old lived with her mother in a city that far away, I'd take a pay cut to be able to take a job in the same city. Committment to Lane Kiffin? Spare me. I don't know Tee's situation in having a child here, but he appears to still have a relationship as I heard he visited while here in K-ville.

I don't believe CBJ or Tennessee did or didn't do anything to scare Tee off. I just think that he was not ready to leave USC. He may be ready in a couple of years, but, he'll be history for us by that time. He had to do what he felt was best for him and his family and cohorts.

He decided to stay. It is just a WR coach! People Chill out, no wonder no one wants to come here! Quit being so Dramatic over the small stuff.....Go Vols!

It could be that Tee is just honing his skills so he can come "home" to a higher position. You guys may end up with him as an OC in a few years.
