What coach would want to come to UT with this team facing the #2,#4,#5 ranked teams on the road and #3 and #10 ranked teams at home next year....who do you honestly think takes this job

also factor in that with this highly emotional fan base after 2 or 3 loses slamming this new coach in all forms of media...i mean..who do you expect to be hired...

keep in mind it already scared Gruden and all the money he was supposedly offered away...

what say you VOL fans..

scared gruden..what scared gruden was the rumors "grumors", lies, that started in k-town and worked its way all the way to espn. now the nation hears the lies and "grumors"

I have been preaching this for a week. Took Hawaii to the Sugar Bowl. He has taken SMU to 3 bowl games. SMU has been dead for twenty years until June arrived. People have laughed at me. But remember Les Miles was 28-21 at Oklahoma State before LSU hired him. Now grant it, Saban didn't leave that program in bad shape. But sometimes good coaches just need facilities, budget, and support that UT provides. He is 59, that is a concern, but has 10 years left. He was a NFL quarterback and coach, has connections to the south, and is a proven recruiter with no allegations in the past against him. And, he digs the fans, he was to Hawaii what Bruce Pearl was to Tennessee. This guy needs a look.

well put!!

Show me the SEC fanbase that wouldn't get emotional over finishing 2-14 in the conference over two years. Even Vandy fan would be upset.

I don't subscribe to the belief among a few defeatists in this fanbase that Tennessee is forever to remain a middling-program in the SEC.

I don't believe 8-4 is the best Tennessee should ever expect from the football program.

I don't buy into the paradigm blaming fans for the errors made by leadership, academic and athletic, over the last several years.

If you have, then perhaps you should follow Sewanee and enjoy getting your brains beat in by Centre and DePauw every year.

Seriously? Why not just get Phil Fulmer back. He has done more than basically any coach that is being mentioned.

I think that any coach worth his salt would relish the opportunity to play 5 of the top 10 teams in the country next year. Everyone knows you're an underdog in all of those games and if you can pull an upset or two, think of the support you'll get from the fans and administration. Heck, every game will be broadcast on National TV and what better opportunity to get the UT brand out there. Knowing you have the opportunity to go up against the best every year is great motivation...for the RIGHT person....

I lived in Hawaii during the June Jones era there and the guy was a true statesman and competitor. I'd be onboard with this hire, his offenses were awesome, just needs the right DC...

OP is completely a troll attempt, can't get more blatant.

Although I will give a serious answer:

A very competitive one..

The type of person who knows he is the best in his business. He must live for the thrill of proving he can overcome even the most daunting challenges and being completely dominant in everything he does, on the field and off of the field.

Who knows if a coach with this attitude even exists. If he does, and UT does not do everything in its power to secure his services.... heads should roll, time to clean house.

Not sure what you have to prove this. Any AD that would hire Dooley would be fired immediately

Umm let see put it this way you don't make it here there a chance you don't get the chance to make it any where. Tennessee is a big time program win or loose and a lot of people would make there judgement on the fact that you could not turn Tennessee around which makes them think you could not turn there program around if the time came just saying.

True, but back to my point, most successful coaches are uber-alpha male types who have few doubts about their abilities and chances to succeed.

We will find someone worthwhile, and that person will specifically relish the chance to cement his legacy by taking on the task of rebuilding Tennessee.

You don't become a legend by playing it safe all the time.

Exactly what we need somebody that laugh in the face of adversity cause we seem to have had our fair share of it.

How about any coach that wants to make a name for himself and get paid well why doing it. Is the OP serious? Is this a serious question? Thousands of college coaches would love to be coaching at UT, it's just can the fan base handle anyone that isn't named Jon Gruden or any other coach with a super bowl ring or a National Championship. Jon Gruden didn't always have that super bowl ring, Nick Saban didn't always have 2 championships in his belt either.

People are going crazy over this for nothing. Dave Hart is going to hire someone and whether us fans like it or not that guy will be the coach of this football program. If your a true Vols fan just have patience and support the players and new coach who ever he may be.

You could say the same thing for several programs around the country. Bama was in a similar spot not so long ago, as was Notre Dame. Take at look at where they are now. Its the same for any "big time" program. Michigan and Nebraska are two more examples. They were down not so long ago too. If they can fight there way back why can't Tennessee?

Which they can and WILL. As I'm sure we have seen from some of the points brought out on this post a job like Tennessee can have big rewards and some big risk as well. GO VOLS

Based soley on what happened in 2008 and again in 2009, I will say that we hire Butch Jones from Cincinnati.

In 2008, we hired our 8th choice. Kiffin was selling himself to our program and I am not sure that Hamilton even had him on his list prior to Kiffin telling us that he was interested.
Mike Leach, Butch Davis, Jon Gruden, Lovie Smith, Bill Cowher, Peterson (Boise State, Patterson, coach at Air Force, Muschamp & Brian Kelly were all mentioned before Kiffin was. The only one that I think we could have hired from that list was Leach. Other than that, no one wanted the job.

In 2009, many of the same candidates were on the list again. However; Muschamp recommended Dooley for us and the rest is history. Oh yeah, Dooley was our 8th, 9th or 10th choice. Well in fact, he was not even on the intial list that anyone mentioned.

Now, in 2012, the list is supposedly Gruden, Stoops, Gundy, Strong, Fisher, Golden, Fedora, and Jones.

I think that no one wants the job, so we over pay Jones and he comes to U.T. Hart will say "This is the man that I had targeted all along."

We end up with Jones, who will be an overpaid coach who underachieves.......

Finding a great coach that will take this job may indeed be a major problem, but with that being said, we will probably have to find an up and comming coach who is up to the challenge. We are going to have to be very patient because rebuilding a program from the start will indeed take at least 4-5 years. He** I've been waiting for the last 7-8 years and it looks like I'll be waiting several more. We are at the level that Vandy and Kentucky used to be.....someone has always got to be in last place, it's now UT's time as sad as it may be.
