'21 Temple Transfer CB Jalen McMurray (Tennessee)

Don’t get me wrong on this reply…

I love our portal haul and evals. All will contribute.

This is the only one I think we reached, but he wanted to come when we backed off and wants to prove himself.

With that said, they flipped it and we are going to see what their recruits look like now and how they play. Gibson looks like a stud. And the younger guys look much more athletic. Oregon state DB and Gibson will be great starting corners.

Hope he shuts me up and dominates! Who am I but a message board poster?
That is worth twenty pounds, see ZZ in bball.

I'm pretty confident that he's at least the equal to those that finally left. If nothing else, this kid will hit you. Doesn't throw himself at knees or do the ol' shoulder bump so I'm fine adding him.

I get that there are such things as "hidden gems" and I as much as anybody hopes this kid is that... however... we're "booming" for a 2 star prospect that is supposed to come in and be an upgrade in the SEC. Our secondary needed a makeover (position coach included) but with highly touted players just seeking more playing time leaving programs like UGA & Bama we're targeting 2 star db's from Temple. I'm failing to see where we're really upgrading at a position of need here.
Do you have any idea how many very good players were forced to accept positions at lesser schools because of covid seniors? They are just now starting to get their chance to show what they have. Stargazers are going to be shocked over the next few years.

Problem is that we've also read that we backed off McMurray due to his measurables not being what we thought. That being the case, we still chose him over the other corners in the portal? Know Harris went to PSU, but McMurray is the guy you see as a CB candidate in this league? Granted, I'm no coach or talent evaluator, but this one just has me scratching my head. 89 total tackles and 1 INT in 3 years at Temple.
So you want him to have more tackles and INTs right? Means the ball would have to go to his side of the field more.

What was the source of your hot tip we backed off of him due to his measurables and what measurables were deemed insufficient? Surely you are not jumping on here basing your position on some vague crap off the internet. So please share your attack worthy data and source with the rest of us.
Mostly was his size that had them reconsidering.

Go watch his film and then explain how he's not good enough.

"Good enough" will be determined when he is trying to cover SEC receivers and tackle SEC running backs. Different animal.
So absolutely no way to tell how he matches up against the athletes in the SEC based on who he played against in the American? What about when he played against Miami?

I must be missing why this a boom-worthy addition, other than the fact that we need warm bodies in the secondary. When I look at these stats, I’m far more concerned than I am impressed, especially since he seemed to be better in 2022 than in 2023. Please, someone who understands this transfer better than I do, explain to me why we’re booming here.

He’s a good athlete, has prototypical CB length, is versatile enough to play safety in a pinch, has multiple years, really wanted to be here, we didn’t have to pay him anything for him to come, and he’s a depth piece for the upcoming year, and he has potential to develop into a nice player for us in the next couple years.

Without looking it up, I’d bet that He had better numbers in 2022 because the opposing QB threw his way more often. He was probably the best corner on his team last year so the other teams QB tried to avoid him… someone can correct me if I’m wrong there.

Some of you have zero knowledge of sports and want to throw sh*t at the wall, hoping it sticks.

You also do realize a DB won’t have stats if the ball isn’t thrown his way most of the time. Almost as if he’s shutting down the offense’s main WR.

Crazy I know…

Anybody got any number of targets stats for the two years? I like facts. If the trend went down after being targeted his FR AA year it would make sense but would like to see the numbers to back it up.

5 Touchdowns given up on 94 targets over the last three seasons.

Per Eric Cain's locked on vols podcast last night where he read that stat off the pff website.

Was curious and found the North Texas - Temple game from this year. He did get beat on two TDs (one was a missed tackle), the other was a missed jump ball. I know highlights don't tell the whole story, and stats don't either especially for DBs, but that wasn't too encouraging. Could just be a bad game though.

He did fight for that ball on that one play, so there is at least that.

You won’t find a DB who hasn’t given up a deep ball. They don’t exist.

How many targets in 22 vs 23? That is what is in question, a decline in PBU's and INTs his second year was an issue and it would make sense if they avoided throwing his way in 23.

Does it have to be 82 or less all 12 months or could we have 85 going into spring and then dip back below after we’ve had a chance to evaluate some guys
I will be shocked if we don't have several May portal departures and therefore some arrivals too after spring ball.

Why didn’t he run to the other side of the field while the ball was in the air and knock down or pick off the passes???
That is so cute. Trying to show blue font without showing blue font. What would really be hilarious is if the ones that liked thought you were serious.

Asked the same thing a day or 2 ago. Got no response. I don’t know if the kid is good or not but I’m tired of hearing how few times the ball was thrown his way by people who have no clue. They just want to seem smarter than the room. I could understand an opinion on an NFL guy but ain’t nobody got time to watch Temple football.
