'21 Temple Transfer CB Jalen McMurray (Tennessee)

Some of you need to do more research. It was reported that we wanted this kid more than AJ Harris from Georgia. We are getting a lot of the guys we wanted. It's okay, you can cheer up and say that things may not be so bad!
Problem is that we've also read that we backed off McMurray due to his measurables not being what we thought. That being the case, we still chose him over the other corners in the portal? Know Harris went to PSU, but McMurray is the guy you see as a CB candidate in this league? Granted, I'm no coach or talent evaluator, but this one just has me scratching my head. 89 total tackles and 1 INT in 3 years at Temple.

Yes there is one on offense and one on defense every year. Very respected part of the “Temple Tough” culture. Last DB to earn one was Rock Ya-Sin and the story got its due flowers during his draft process
In the short highlight clip, him and a teammate make a tackle and they both have a single digit number….

Kid wanted to be here and came cheap to try to prove himself. I like that attitude. We are looking for one more DB still. Coaches want an OT (heard), LG, and DB.

What was the source of your hot tip we backed off of him due to his measurables and what measurables were deemed insufficient? Surely you are not jumping on here basing your position on some vague crap off the internet. So please share your attack worthy data and source with the rest of us.

One of those 3 years he redshirted

We’ve also read that our coaches like him better than Harris.

Tackles don't tell you much about a CB. Freshman All-American, first freshman to get a single-digit at Temple in 10 years, and the staff liked him better than AJ Harris. Sounds like a take to me.

Yeah I don’t understand the criticism at all. It cost us next to nothing to get him according to Eric. Why would we not take an all-American for nothing? Weird thing to be up in arms about.

Don’t get me wrong on this reply…

I love our portal haul and evals. All will contribute.

This is the only one I think we reached, but he wanted to come when we backed off and wants to prove himself.

With that said, they flipped it and we are going to see what their recruits look like now and how they play. Gibson looks like a stud. And the younger guys look much more athletic. Oregon state DB and Gibson will be great starting corners.

Hope he shuts me up and dominates! Who am I but a message board poster?

I suppose it’s also fair to not fully trust our staff’s DB evals. Our secondary should have performed better in year 3. I think we got it right in the 2022 class and people will trust Banks and Martinez more after this season, but it’s on them to prove it.

I figure him in as a replacement for a guy like Rucker. Depth for sure and if he turns out to be more than that, it is a nice bonus.

I get that there are such things as "hidden gems" and I as much as anybody hopes this kid is that... however... we're "booming" for a 2 star prospect that is supposed to come in and be an upgrade in the SEC. Our secondary needed a makeover (position coach included) but with highly touted players just seeking more playing time leaving programs like UGA & Bama we're targeting 2 star db's from Temple. I'm failing to see where we're really upgrading at a position of need here.
just quit following the roster so close if you dont understand it. Enjoy the games. Enjoy your life.

Keep this in mind: "We" know nothing about Heupel's strategy for the roster. Where does this guy fit in the overall secondary plan? None of us know. Some of you are making this kid a shutdown corner when he could simply be a rotational DB. Not every transfer needs to be Darrell Revis folks. The secondary needs puzzle pieces at this point. The transfer portal is how everyone will complete their roster going forward, role players included.

As an aside, I haven't seen this kind of angst and negativity in the Recruiting Forum in many years.

I love the competition he's gonna bring. Likely one of the older players in the DB room. Could be some much needed leadership

McMurray
Gibson
McCoy
Matthews
Conyer
Harrison
Thomas
Beasley
Boo Carter
Christian Charles? He still around?

John Slaughter as well. And two Thomas’s.. Jourdan and Jakobe. Both can play!
