TENN vs. UCONN

I don't think there's anything about "running away from competition" in the decision to drop the UCONN game. No, I'm sure. If that was what is being referred to. I'm not even sure if it was.

If Pat was afraid of competition, our strenghth of schedule would not be consistantly at or near the top.

Sadly, there may be a big difference in how they were earned.

It's hard to talk about integrity, class, sportsmanship and such to so many "just win baby" philosophers. The concepts just never occur to them-or they dismiss them as unimportant. Might be a generational thing....I dunno.

Spot on. By the way "Just win baby" is a quote from Al Davis former boss of you know who.

Time passes, people get older and things have a way of changing sometimes. Maybe at some future date UCONN goes back on the schedule.

You're kidding, right? There are only two teams worth a d**n in women's basketball. Just because you pile up on the rest of the midgets in the game doesn't mean that you've got a strong schedule.

Since 1995, 11 out of 15 NCAA champions have either been Tennessee or UCONN...

No. I'm not kidding. If you think that there are only two teams that are very good, that tells me you don't know a lot about the women's game. Over the years there have been many strong teams. UCONN and the Lady Vols have just been more consistantly at the top. I think this is a weak year when compared to some past years for the other teams.

11 of 15 titles sure looks like a 2 horse race to me, with a small opening for a longshot. Especially in a tourney situation with the possibility of an off night ending it.

lol @ the last comment. I guess when UCLA had their historic run in men's BB all the other teams sucked huh. It's called dominance, it's what dynasties do. it doesn't automatically mean that there is no competition.

Yes, because UCONN going on two separate 70 game winning streaks strongly suggests that the competition is fierce.

Here's to Pat and the Lady Vols stopping that streak in the tournamnet, then winning her 9th NCAA title

At the most there is only 3 or 4 teams on a given year that can win it all. Way less parity that men's basketball.

The only thing I'd like to give the jerk is a punch in the nose.

I HATE him!!

:machgun:

OO what I would give to see that....

As to the orginal question: Pat has always played it straight, she doesn't accept any crap. Geno, well, is full of it....recruiting issues, comments to the press, personal attacks...he is just slime :finger3:.

As far as I am concerned, Pat has earned the right to make that call without being questioned. And she is certainly not running from competation.

I think she just doesn't wanna see or hear the arrogant loudmouth unless it is absolutely necessary. I'm with her on that.

If anybody is going to stop UCONN this year, it will be the LVs.

I don't know if anyone can. I know Pat did them in during the '97 tournament when they were undefeated, but I could almost see that one coming for some reason, 10 losses or not. I still remember the picture of the UConn players crying at the end of the game after the LVs ended their 31-0 season.

The game where we beat them in the '96 Final Four was the best women's game I ever saw (something Geno, ironically, has said himself about it), but our win over them in '97 was the most satisfying.

Beating them this year would top it.

It does inevitably at least *seem* like you have to get to the Elite 8 in Women's Basketball in order to get competitive games, but I'm still afraid the LV's vs. UCONN in the Final Four would still end up a 10-15 point loss for us. I mean the separation is just off the charts right now. We might actually make a game out of it for a while, but that's about it.

I would love to be wrong though, because it would be fantastic to snap that streak.

Stanford could give UCONN a good game. They led at halftime in Storrs earlier this year, but couldn't put 2 good halves together to win. But even that would require UCONN to sleepwalk through most of the game.
