In this Wild West era of college sports, there are definitely going to be some epic failures. Both individuals that go bust and whole programs that collapse because they bet the farm on a few players that don’t deliver. I have no idea if TN is headed that way, but I don’t feel good about recent events.

I share your concern.

Luckily we have Faizon Brandon coming in next year and Jake Merklinger already on campus. G Mac is another project in my opinion just like Nico. He could be really good or he could end up playing at Vanderbilt or Memphis in 2 years

It's not about Nico being bad. It's about building an offense around Nico. O line, WRs, etc.

And then there’s everyone else who will lay down when they don’t get anything. Those few paid players aren’t doing much without any help.

Nico showed a ton of courage against OSU. He missed some throws, but he wasn't the problem. Too many injuries to our playmakers and our offensive line couldn't block, particularly at right tackle. Give Nico some time and he will be fine, but the guy needs some help. I'm not sure how quick he goes through his progressions, but it appeared that no one was open anywhere he was looking. He also needs more help from the coaches. They did not create or alter a gameplan that positioned him to succeed.

Nico was never a project. He was just as highly rated as Brandon coming out of HS.

G-Mac wasn’t a top 3-4 recruit overall

With a healthy Sampson we may still lose, but it is a pretty darn close game. Without him Nico was running for his life and didn't have time to make his second or third reads. Heupel has got to replace Sampson and get some GOOD WR in here. And fix the o-line. It may mean he has to make some coaching changes, and when you are the head man, you have to do what needs to be done. I am encouraged for next season.
