I'm still on the fence with Nico - but maybe I am unfairly comparing him to Manning, Dobbs and Hooker who were game changing QB's out of the gate.
Nico is much better than Dobbs. Compare him with Peyton? We don’t have a WR or OL that could have started for Peytons team. He hd Kent and Nash to throw to. Two true game breakers. Hooker? You do realize Hooker was a 4th and 5th year SR when he was here right? He wasn’t a RS FR.

Luckily we have Faizon Brandon coming in next year and Jake Merklinger already on campus. G Mac is another project in my opinion just like Nico. He could be really good or he could end up playing at Vanderbilt or Memphis in 2 years
G Mac won like 2-10 as a junior. I would be stunned if he is ever any good.

Nico is not much better than Dobbs. He is worse than Dobbs.

Somebody call Josh Heupel—this ain’t it, chief
The bust in the playoffs were the coaches. 3 weeks to come up with something to play with osu and it wasn't there.

The second bust was the offensive line in game.

None were in the playoffs either
Agreed, but What game did Tenn win this year just because Nico was playing and any of the above QBs couldn’t have won. I actually think it’s a possibility they could have won the Ark game with Diego or Lagway. Nico threw for 158 yds that game and rushed for 11 yds.

I really wish we had gone all in with Deuce Knight instead of G Mac. He was ours if we wanted him. He just seems more fit to play in our system where a great dual threat QB is necessary. But G Mac was a Tennessee guy, so.... JMO

With a healthy Sampson we may still lose, but it is a pretty darn close game. Without him Nico was running for his life and didn't have time to make his second or third reads. Heupel has got to replace Sampson and get some GOOD WR in here. And fix the o-line. It may mean he has to make some coaching changes, and when you are the head man, you have to do what needs to be done. I am encouraged for next season.
I doubt it. Samson wasn't gonna rock that OSU defense. We got manhandled in the trenches. In classic style, when that happens, fans start pointing fingers at coaches, QBs, RBs, TEs, and WRs. OSU was very well coached in that 3 weeks against our predictable O. They owned our OL, and stayed on top of our wideouts without having to blitz often. Neither Dylan Samson, Barry Sanders or Walter Payton we're going to make that game close.
That's why you have to win in the trenches to win consistently.

So since I don't really understand all the details of NIL money, if Nico were to transfer, does he forfeit some of the money? I presume it is not paid up front, but a graded scale per year?

His article is basically saying we went 10-2 despite a bad offensive line and no playmakers at WR.... I read this article and feel optimistic moving forward

I’m on the fence as well. That said Hooker wasn’t great out of the gate. In his first spring game he looked awful but you can’t judge much on that considering Milton was the guaranteed starter anyway. If Milton doesn’t get hurt we may not have ever seen Hooker which brings into the question on whether our coaches know what they’re doing. On top of that Nico had the luxury to sit for a year and half to learn all he (should) needs to know. Others didn’t get that luxury.

Good question. No way they pre-pay him. What if he goes pro after Season 3?

Nico has not yet shown that he is better than Dobbs - sorry he hasn't. Dobbs could make plays where plays did not exist.

Just think of the Hail Mary at Georgia. If that’s Nico he probably doesn’t even throw the ball.

I still to this day, can't believe that play. It took me a few minutes for it to register that we had won the game!

Two players that were determined to make that happen - Dobbs and Jennings.

Dude, I’ve only opened 3 threads so far tonight and you have been in all of them trashing this kid. What is your deal? Grow up and find something else to do. You will sincerely not be missed.

Yes sorry he has. Let’s look at some stats shall we? Now I am focusing on passing. Dobbs first year as a starter was 2015. Here is his stats

59% 2291 15 TDs 5 INTs 6.7 Y/A

Nico’s first year as a starter:

64% 2616 19 TDs 5 INTs 7.8 Y/A

Dobbs was the better runner. But sorry the passing stats are in Nico’s favor. Nico is more accurate, had more yards, TDs and a better Y/A.

I’ll take Dobbs and save $8 million all day. Nico more accurate? 😂

I heard this same story about 2 years ago. We have a good QB, but the Oline is terrible, the WRs can’t get separation, and on and on. Then a QB named Herndon Hooker took the reins of that same team, and it was game on. Quick decisions and accurate passes on time is what it takes. Every great college QB doesn’t have to be an NFL type guy (May never play in the NFL) but they bring an it to the college game. These guys are out there and can be had for less than $2M a year out of HS. I would venture Diego did more for Vandy than Nico did for Tenn. And the RS Fr game doesn’t play. Lagway improved Fl as a freshman, Sellers did more for USCe as a RS Fr, aTm won 9 games with basically a Fr, Ark won 7 with a Fr. None earned $2M a year.
Arkansas 's QB1 isn't a freshman is he?
