That's total defense.

our rush defense is like 14th or something like that.

our pass defense is bad. don't look it up.

Scoring defense - points allowed is 43rd.

Second quarter. We usually get gassed. I would reckon these stats improve. Starting with Alabama.

As stated elsewhere, our opponents have to pass a lot to catch up to us, and have plenty of time to do so, thus we give up a lot of yards.

Points are better (though still not so great), and are what really matter.

Think of it this way...we play so fast and score so many points, that the other team gets a lot more plays on offense.

Yards per play is much more revealing.

We are 61st in yards per play. Not great, but not awful. Definitely could be better, but I will take it, we are 6-0 baby!

Scoring defense is the metric that we should look at.

In 2003, USC won the national championship despite having the 7th worst pass defense in the country. Yes, it would obviously be better if Tennessee had a great pass defense, but great things can still be accomplished if you have a terrific offense and good rush defense. As USC proved in 2003.

Everyone knows this defense can improve, and I am sure they will as time goes on. But hell, what happens if they become top 25? Do they win the superbowl?

We are always going to give up yards. That's the nature of our offense. We could have UGA's defense and still give up nearly 400 yards/game. When you score as quickly as we do, you give the opposing teams more sets of series on offense than they typically would. So even a bad offense that scores zero points could run 60 plays and rack up 300+ yards of offense.

The more important stats to look at for our defense are points allowed and yards per play. Currently, we rank 37th in points allowed and 49th in yards per play. And both numbers were a good bit higher before this past Saturday. Be that as it may, those rankings are still pretty solid.

Keep doing what we’re doing stopping the run, it’ll eventually get teams out of rhythm of passing more. I think Kentucky and Georgia, especially Georgia likes to run the ball more, get them out of their comfort zone all game, and it’ll be a glorious day for us in both games.
