Keep doing what we’re doing stopping the run, it’ll eventually get teams out of rhythm of passing more. I think Kentucky and Georgia, especially Georgia likes to run the ball more, get them out of their comfort zone all game, and it’ll be a glorious day for us in both games.
When we score in buckets, people are gonna pass more too and be one dimensional. it even tricked Saban, who thought they had so many passing yards he didn't need to run the ball at the end of the game..

But it doesn’t seem like it does it? Is this true? 🤔

Defense is bad. Bama is mad. The Impaler is Vlad. CJH is Saban's dad.

It don't matter. Vawls by fiddy.

If you understand macro, these numbers are skewed. We average about 2 minutes per drive and rarely punt. Based on that alone - with an on par defense, our opponents would get roughly 12 to 20 snaps more on average than when they play other teams. I worry less about total yards given up - that will happen. I’m more interested in exceeding our head to head opponent on TFLs, sacks, turnovers and of course, outscoring our opponents. If we have the edge in those, then we are in good shape.

This is total D. Scoring D ultimately matters more and our ranking in scoring D is much better, though I’m sure it took a hit Saturday.

UT has played the #3, #6, and #7 O's in the SEC. Ball St is 3rd in the MAC. Akron is terrible at 9th. Pitt is currently 8th in the ACC. Competition matters. While YPG may not be great... it should improve over the last few games.

However if you turn that to yds/play... you get a different picture. UT is 61st at 5.48 yds/play. That puts UT at 9th in the SEC but only .44 yds/play behind UK at #4... and UK hasn't played NEARLY the competition that UT has. For that matter... neither has UGA who is a yard per play better.

Probably more importantly though, UT allows 23 ppg even after Bama. That's 8th in the SEC.... and in spite of all the handwringing... good enough.

As stated elsewhere, our opponents have to pass a lot to catch up to us, and have plenty of time to do so, thus we give up a lot of yards.

Points are better (though still not so great), and are what really matter.

Think of it this way...we play so fast and score so many points, that the other team gets a lot more plays on offense.

Yards per play is much more revealing.

We are 61st in yards per play. Not great, but not awful. Definitely could be better, but I will take it, we are 6-0 baby!

6-0 sounds great, especially when you add in already beat Florida, LSU& Alabama man that sounds good.

Nothing like having 49 hung on by a top offense to mess with your #s. We're #87 total defense before Bama game who was #6 and now 16th.

We're #126 (25:51) in time of possession. . . imagine HH having the ball in his hands for another 5 to 10 minutes

It’s a misleading stat. We have a “bend but don’t break” defense. We give up a lot of yards between the 20’s, but those yards aren’t always converted to points. We are solid in the red zone and force teams to try for FGs instead of TDs. It’s a strategy… Every team is going to try to control the clock and the time of possession against us. They all think that’s the formula for beating us. And that’s where our perceived weakness becomes a strength. We focus on stopping the run because run plays keep the clock running. We force them to throw the ball, and they pick up a lot of yards in doing so. You’re always going to pick up passing yards when you throw 50 times per game. So I don’t even pay attention to those “yards allowed” numbers. They’re always going to be high. As long as we keep them from scoring touchdowns, I don’t care if they have 1,000 yards a game. Yards don’t equal points.

That's total defense.

our rush defense is like 14th or something like that.

our pass defense is bad. don't look it up.

Scoring defense - points allowed is 43rd.

Scoring Defense is what is important. Of course our passing yards allowed will be awful. We are good against the run so teams are forced to pass. Our offense is hella explosive and mostly jumps on teams early so our opponents are passing to attempt to keep up. Our secondary is not great so we will give up passing yards.

As long as we stay top 60 in scoring defense we will be tough to beat.

Exactly we're the #12 ranked red zone defense.

We are also one of the best at stopping the run and we get after the quarterback. We do them 2 things the rest of the year and I could care less about the stats. GBO

Tennessee has been up 3 scores or more on everyone except Pitt.

Teams have been passing the ball like crazy…….just to try and keep up.

Bama passed the ball 52 times………and Tennessee’s “terrible” pass D gave up less than their average per attempt.

Of corse teams will gain tons of passing yards…….they are throwing the ball 46 times per game.

Your going to have to look an all the stats together. Not saying Tennessee’s pass D is good or their overall D is great, but it’s not 104 bad…….in context.
