How likely is he to make it to campus?
Awesome news, thanks!Someone I know who works for Baseball America believes this kid is overrated and will play college ball. By overrated, he doesn’t mean he can’t be a very good college player, but that BA’s ranking him the #1 player in TN is too high. He says he’s an elite defender in the OF, but needs to get better at the plate before going pro. So it sounds like he will likely make it to campus.
These are insane numbers:
Weatherford College Athletics
28 HRs, .401 BA, 102 RBIs in 63 games…good Lord. He’s also a LHP, but with numbers like that, I have to think he’s being recruited for his bat. Maybe he can play OF?
Edit: his Perfect Game profile shows that he also plays outfield (at least in high school), so maybe that’s where he’s being projected. Also bats right handed, which we need. Canadien kid.

Tony said he has a flight this morning at 8:00 AM for recruiting. Sheesh. I wonder who he is going to meet? This is where I wish baseball recruiting had a bit more coverage. You’re basically in the dark until a commitment randomly pops up.
Just spit ballin', but a SS prospect with that bat should go within the top five rounds this year.Tony seemed to be talking up Dustin Dickerson pretty hard. I'm curious if that was an attempt to get him to Tennessee. He's a junior but should have 2 years of eligibility left. I'm not certain what the MLB thinks of his talents.

I'd love to see him in Orange. Guessing he'll forego more college for an MiLB contract. MLB prospect paywalls suck...I attempted to look, but most site are pay site. I didn't find anything. His father is an assistant coach for the Philadelphia Phillies.
But, they're losing their coach, we have a need, Tony went out of his way to compliment him. Borderline gushing over him. I would be apropos, to go from a villian to a player for the Vols Villains.
If he mentioned his name, he ain’t coming. I’d imagine the NCAA would have another field day with CTVTony seemed to be talking up Dustin Dickerson pretty hard. Football recruiting sometimes gets too much hype: it's difficult to make an unpublicized move. It's a mixed blessing either way. But Tony will kill it, as usual.Tony said he has a flight this morning at 8:00 AM for recruiting. Sheesh. I wonder who he is going to meet? Let’s say we loss just Rucker, how does that compare to the rest of the conference in terms of high school commits. Was looking at the MLB.com top 200 draft prospects list. Only saw 2 Tennessee recruits in there: 3B Carson Rucker and LHP Matthew Dallas.
Here are their profiles:
Carson Rucker (#131): https://www.mlb.com/prospects/draft/carson-rucker-813620
Matthew Dallas (#189): https://www.mlb.com/prospects/draft/matthew-dallas-806054
I liked reading this part about Dallas: “He's more about projection than present stuff, so he may wind up attending college at Tennessee, where he'd be Draft-eligible as a 21-year-old sophomore in 2025.”
Also, Zane Denton isn’t listed in there. Sounds like we might get lucky and the draft will be kind to Tennessee, maybe, just maybe, only taking Rucker from us.
Rucker will be in school.
Is "Dallas" the younger brother of Cheese? If Rucker and Dallas both make it in, it sounds like UT may not lose anyone to the draft, other than current team members. Cole Eaton is a highly regarded OF prospect, but I’m not seeing any draft projections for him. Same with Grimmer in the INF and Antigua at SS.
This could be an outstanding freshman class if they all avoid signing with a pro team. Rucker, Lawless, Eaton, Antigua, and Grimmer are guys who look like they could contribute early and are at need positions. I think Zane goes pro (hope I’m wrong), so Rucker might start right away. I think he’s that good.
Then you have arms like Dallas, Loy, and Schaefer who could really shore up the bullpen with Cam and Halvorsen leaving and Burns/Russell moving into weekend roles. I also like that Dallas and Loy give us some LHPs, which we are short on this year.
