I've said some ridiculous things in the course of my fandom, I just don't see why we call our own fans out when they are just being "patriotic" to the VolNation, for lack of a better word.

I can understand calling a poster out for bashing another poster, calling someone out for bashing a player, calling someone out for being ignorant, racist, homophobic, derogatory to women, gross, or even not calling someone out for expressing his displeasure with the coaching staff.

I just don't get calling this dude out for what he said unless you're just looking to argue. If you are, great. I'm just calling you out...

It's akin to walking out of Neyland Holy Round w/ yer group after squeaking by Vandy (or somesuch) and saying, "We killed them, huh?" accompanied by much laughter and "had 'em all day"... on the way to get a brew or two. It's a family thang. Vols family.

I remember listening to John Ward do that game on the radio...It was in the Sugar Bowl Classic in the SuperDome....Duke had a guy named Gene Banks on the team...Seemed like that's about all they had that year...Mike Krzyzewski was coaching though...

saying tennessee is as historically as good of a basketball program as duke is about like saying duke is as historically as good of a football program as tennessee.

Tennessee might beat duke 2 out of 10 times this year. Duke is bigger stronger and more talented across the board and they will win their first of at least two straight national titles tonight

Yes I remember that tournament quite well...We beat a powerful Arizona St team in the opening round to play Duke in the final...And demolished them...That 1980 team was truly one of the most underrated team in UT history...They beat some damn good teams that season...Purdue, Arizona St, Brigham Young...the only team that was really a thorn in our side in those days was Ole Miss...They just found ways to beat us and if not for Ralph Sampson and that Virgina team We might have gone a lot farther in the NCAA's....Excellent team that year.

Duke, hands down. We've just happened to often play Duke when we were up and they were down. Duke was very much an up-and-down team before Coach K, but their "ups" were tremendous. They had some good teams with Dick Groat in the 1950s, a few more with Vic Bubas coaching in the '60s, and a few more with Bill Foster not too long before K arrived. Both Bubas and Foster went to the championship game.

Both of them left Duke because they got tired of feeling like they were second fiddle to UNC, even when they were the better team. (Foster was the one who said it was "Naismith who invented basketball, not Deansmith.") Coach K is the first Duke coach who dealt with the Tar Heel colossus and never backed down.

Sometimes, all-time records are deceiving. I think Florida leads the all-time series with us in football, but if they had played us every year since the start of the SEC, we'd have a huge lead. But they didn't become an annual opponent until Spurrier, so...

From my era, the Ernie and Bernie squad lost to Duke in Stokely at the beginning of the 76-77 season. It was the year before Duke lost to UK in the finals. I remember Mike Gminski was a freshman (I think) and they had Spanarkel as well. We were shocked we lost at home. We then won a bunch in a row before the crappy made for TV game against UCLA at the old Omni (which was new at the time). Drove down to Atlanta for that game - just wonderful

really? I don't see anyone claiming UT has a better program. One poster brought up the question and it was basically laughed at.

UT basketball has been much better than Duke football comparatively speaking. It's not even close either

So you are looking for a board where we all pat each other on the back and discuss how great UT athletics is; no matter how big the exaggeration?

Sounds boring but I’ll try.

Pooch, I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge that you are the greatest poster in the history of VN. Though your tenure has been short, I don’t know how we got along without you.

I also want to say that I feel sorry for all the other fans of every other school. They are the unfortunate few who are not lucky enough to be a part of the greatest athletic program in the history of the world – UT Athletics. Perhaps we should let Pat and the Lady Vols play next year’s Men’s schedule to give some of those other teams an opportunity to compete against us.

Who am I kidding? They could never beat the Lady Vols.

i think we would have beaten butler and duke.. i wish we just could have had the chance. its just frustrating to get so close and to come up short. if only we had let bobby take it to the hole on that last play.. he was the most reliable player on the floor whenever we needed 2 points. but woulda coulda shoulda right? well get em next year. thats the beauty of it all... :blush:

I think the goal is to discuss and debate the topics at hand versus getting caught up in name calling and personal attacks. I know, for me personally, I don't like to click on a thread about J.P. Prince and read five pages of posters calling out each other's mothers.
