Tennessee - Duke overall record?

i think we would have beaten butler and duke.. i wish we just could have had the chance. its just frustrating to get so close and to come up short. if only we had let bobby take it to the hole on that last play.. he was the most reliable player on the floor whenever we needed 2 points. but woulda coulda shoulda right? well get em next year. thats the beauty of it all... :blush:

I think the goal is to discuss and debate the topics at hand versus getting caught up in name calling and personal attacks. I know, for me personally, I don't like to click on a thread about J.P. Prince and read five pages of posters calling out each other's mothers.

From my era, the Ernie and Bernie squad lost to Duke in Stokely at the beginning of the 76-77 season. It was the year before Duke lost to UK in the finals. I remember Mike Gminski was a freshman (I think) and they had Spanarkel as well. We were shocked we lost at home. We then won a bunch in a row before the crappy made for TV game against UCLA at the old Omni (which was new at the time). Drove down to Atlanta for that game - just wonderful

Ahh good memory...I had forgotten they had lost to Duke at Stokley that season...That was a very good Duke team...Spanarkel was on that team...The UCLA game was nothing short of a disaster :swoon3:

UT basketball has been much better than Duke football comparatively speaking. It's not even close either

Actually it is pretty comparitve if you actually knew what you were talking about. Tennessee has a history of no success in basketball. Duke has 18 ACC titles and 4 National Championships Tennessee has 4 SEC championships none since 1979 and no national titles. Duke has 7 Conference titles in football and we all know how storied our program is. However Duke football stacks up as good if not better than our basketball team and remember we were being laughed at in basketball for quite a while. If you are gonna hate a team have a valid reason dont just post dumb stuff like you think TN could kill duke in basketball in just wouldnt happen, you obviously dont know much about the game. Check my posts I predicted Duke the champ and look what happened, everyone on here said WVU deserved Duke's 1 seed and ask Huggins and Butler what its like playing Duke. They reload next year and will repeat and will have a hard time losing a game if Singler is back.

I got to looking back at that 76-77 game between Duke and UT in Knoxville...12,944 saw the game in Stokely (Got that attendance from a Duke stat site but that would be the second or third largest crowd at Stokely and it's not listed as such in the record book).....Tennessee was 15th ranked coming into the game and Duke was unranked....For Duke, Tate Armstrong led the way with 29 points followed by Jim Spanarkel's 19 points and Mike Gminski added 15....Mike Jackson led the Vols with 22 points followed by Ernie Grunfeld with 21 points and Bernard King added 19...The final was 81-78 Duke...The Vols ended the season with a 22-6 record while Duke finished 14-13...Duke shot over 60% for the game and outrebounded the Vols by 4...
