Why would anyone pull for an (independent) catholic school from up north, against a southern team...?I won't get excited either way.....I just wouldn't pull for NO DAME over an SEC school...if it was VANDY, would you feel differently....?We STILL hate bammer, but I hated ND long before I knew about Bammer..:dunno:

If you hate ND worse than Alabama, you're not doing it right! And being a yankee and a Catholic is still a hell of a lot better than being an Alabama fan any day.

To me it's like this. Let's say your daughter is trying out for the U.S. gymnastics team and gets beat out by another girl. When the Olympics roll around are you going to root for that girl or will you root for China?

Depends. Does the other girl play football for Alabama?

What everyone doesn’t realize is this... Every time we pull for an SEC team to win another NC, or to win another bowl game... that is one more 4 or 5-star recruit Tennessee misses out on. We are pulling for the very teams we recruit against every year, yet we wonder why we can’t close the gap between us and them???

It’s the dumbest notion ever. Look, I’m proud to be in the SEC, and there was a time where I did pull for the SEC over whoever else... but that was before we’d won 6 in a row. Everyone in the whole damn nation knows we have the best conference, we don’t need Bama to win another championship to prove that...

Another truth is that when your team sucks like the Vols do.. we tend to pull for the SEC because we have nothing else to be proud of, nothing else to hang our hat on... The truth is, the longer Georgia, LSU, Alabama, Florida, etc... continue to go to SEC championships, win titles and win bowl games... we are never going to be able to close the gap.

Your are an idiot!!! No matter who is in the NC game that's who the 5 star recruits are going to be looking at. I'd rather someone in the SEC be in the NC game every year than a Indepent Notre Lame where everyone in the nation thinks oh it's Notre Dame they get a automatic bid no matter what. Get your head outta your butt and come back to reality with the rest of us.

A lot of people should go read read up on General Neyland and his stance on Bama. Our fans today have changed a lot compared to older generations. I guess I'm just to old.

My mother in law is a hardcore Tennessee fan. I've seen her go outside and tell the neighbor he had to change his shirt, because he was wearing a Bama colored shirt during Bama week. I've seen her sit on the front porch with a shotgun daring the guy down the street with his Gator flag to drive by one more time. I'll say this he never drove by her house again with that flag lol. There is no love for any team other than Tennessee Vols. For the record my mother in law is now in her 60's and has 4 UT tattoos. No other tatoos just UT and she hasn't missed a home game since 72'.

And if we start winning, beating other SEC teams will look more impressive. Besides, us cheering for Alabama doesn't really make them play any better...

Blood will always be thicker than water. Thats what makes the SEC the SEC. No other conference supports their own like we do. Fans know it, analysts know it, players know it, coaches know it, and recruits know it. And until a team leaves the SEC i will ALWAYS support my own in the NC over some overrated school that looks down on my family, my conference (no matter how much i dislike the family member). Better get with it or get over it because its always been like this in the SEC and its not changing anytime soon. Go Vols.

I hope an event horizon opens in the middle of the field, at about 5 minutes into the first quarter, and the quintessence of the universe absorbs both teams and all fans excluding any hot chicks. The game is called a draw for the NCAA but a win for ridding the planet of many Bama and Notre Dame fans.

Some of you are pulling for/cheering for bama our most hated rival in the NC game I would like to know why?

Growing up you're taught to hate bama...where along the lines did it become okay for some of you to change your mind on this stance?

If bama was on fire I would celebrate and throw more gas on the fire...I wish FREAK or one of the mods would find that "I hate bama post" from a few years back and a lot more people got to read that post it was one of the best posts in the history of volnation.com

Because growing up EVERYONE is taught to hate ND

So let me get this right. We should hope for the SEC should suck so we feel better about ourself. Really!!! I hope someone stays at top so when not if, when we climb back to the top it will mean something!!! I love being apart of the best conference and want to keep us there!!!! CAUSE WE ARE COMING BACK, AND HELLS COMING WITH US!!!!:peace2:

I hated ND UNTIL I went to the Miracle in South Bend. Their fans could not have been nicer. Was there for 2 days visiting grotto, church, campus. They gave UT the hockey arena as a HQ. A ND fan took picture of final scoreboard and mailed it to me [b4 digital cameras kids]. Classy x10.

That said - rooting for SEC [here in ACC country makes for good SEC dominant talk]

I keep thinking there couldn't possibly be a more ridiculous thread than some of the ones in here and then one like this pops up and proves there is no end to the insanity.

The best way I can explain it is this: I may fight my brother, but if anyone messes with him then they've got us both to deal with.

It's how I view the SEC. We all kick, fight, and bleed against each other but when anyone outside the conference comes calling, then it's us against the world!

edit: grammar

I guess that makes Alabama our big brother then, right? Because they certainly seem to kick the **** out of us every year.

Screw Bama. Screw the rest of the SEC. It's us against them, man. Bama winning another title only knocks us back even further from relevance. How many more 5* Tennessee recruits do they have to pluck right out from under our noses will it take for you to wake up and realize Bama winning only HURTS UT?

47 years a Vol fan since I was 8 years old. I watched year after year as teams from the SEC got screwed over by the polls, they ignored us unless they absolutely had no other choice. It was clear the rest of the country didn't like us or want to give us the credit we where due right up until the BCS. Decades of bias against the SEC and you start to stand together and pull for each other because no one else did, It was us against everyone else.

The BCS changed all that and on the day they announced the BCS system I said it was the best thing that could happen for the SEC because now they wouldn't be able to ignore us any more. The BCS proved to the rest of the country what we knew all along, the SEC is the best conference in collage football, and now everyone admits we are the best but only because we have rubbed their noses in it.

Decades of watching the SEC get cheated and robbed in the polls is why I will always and I mean always root for any SEC team over anybody else. Every time a SEC team wins OOC its good for every team in the conference because it cements our place as the top conference and that helps every SEC school recruit.

I hope Alabama pounds ND into dust and embarrasses them completely.
Roll Tide do the SEC proud !!

I'm with you. What SEC fan would root for ND?

I'm not an SEC fan...I'm a UT fan. If UT suddenly went to the ACC, would you stop being a UT fan? Loving UT is first, hating Alabama is second and liking the SEC is third...I would hardly call myself a "fan" of the SEC. So yes, go Irish.
