TENNESSEE Has THE MOST INSANE Backup QB in College Football

Physically, he's a beast. Having been in the military for 37 years though, I don't believe people who make poor decisions under fire can be fixed. He may not last any longer as a starter the next time than he did the last time. This year we have not seen him in more stress than practice, and I guess he is a good at practicing. Lamaleva is coming into a real opportunity.

I agree you either have it or don’t have it when live bullets start flying. I don’t think you can teach that either, You can improve his mechanics but I also don’t think you can do much about some one’s ability to perform under pressure. I hope we are both wrong.😀

Thank you for your service.
I have seen plenty of QBs (people in general) come in and make terrible choices at Tennessee to excel either here or elsewhere. Coaching (management, parenting, mentoring) and experience are impactful and improve decision-making. People can and do learn to handle situations better all the time. As a parent, I promise you my teenager made some really poor decisions under fire, but at this point, I could lean on them for some decisions when under pressure. They got better as these experiences came their way and they made it through.

I’ve learned that when it comes to sports most people faced with the same situational circumstances over time can learn and adjust to become better players. From what I’ve seen this year Milton seems to be one of those people.

Hope so. Really do. I've seen a lot of guys with cannons for arms come and go over the last 60 plus years. That alone won't cut it. Peyton didn't have the greatest arm. Tarkington didn't have the greatest arm. Unitas didn't have the greatest arm. List goes on. Point being that you have to have certain intangibles to play QB. Does Milton? Hopefully, we won't need to find out until next season. Surely among the 3 guys going into spring ball, we have 1 who can assume the starting role and not take too much of a step backward? Really hope so. I've kinda grown to like this winning stuff. Kinda fun.

Make that the 3 of us 👍.

It'll be an interesting year at QB next season.

From my perspective, accuracy and touch on his passing was why he lost the starting job last season, not poor decision making. Only terrible decision I recall from last year was the infamous run out of bounds and this year he’s trying to truck folks. If he had of hit those open deep passes against Pitt, then Hooker may have never gotten an opportunity. In his limited sample size this season Milton appears to have improved his accuracy. If he can repeat this consistently next year then he should have a great season. Time will tell and thankfully there will be competition in the qb room if Milton falters. I’m rooting for him as he’s handled the situation well

We will find out next season. I agree he has out of this world potential, but he has yet to show he can handle the pressure. In fact, so far, he has shown he can not handle the pressure. for many reasons, I hope he can be the player we want and need next year. If he can not, we have Jackson and Nico who appear to be really good QB material. Out of the three, I believe we will have a top QB on the field next year and will be as good or better as new are this year at the QB position.

What specifically this season has Milton done to show you he can’t handle the pressure? Or, is your take that he’s not played during pressure situations therefore your take is from the first 2 games from last season?

It's tough to say which is the best, but the one that starts at 0:30 almost amuses me. Milton doesn't even look like he's straining; he throws a 55 yard pass but looks like he's playing backyard throw-and-catch.
I'll go on record and say he doesn't make those throws last year. I see a huge development in his touch and scanning the field in 1 year. This is coaching and we seem to be in good hands next year. Go Vols.

I am more in the wait and see mode. He certainly has as much arm strength as I’ve ever seen. But it’s one thing to do it In mop up duty and quite another against a Bama, Florida or Georgia. I still have visions of last year when he started. There were people in the stands with better chances to catch passes than our WR’s. He looks improved but I want to see him in prime time. He’ll get his chance next year.

Those of y’all doubting his ability to grow realize Hooker was barely average at VT and in his first spring here the new staff felt they needed to go get another QB.

Milton will be two years older and more mature under an amazing staff. Don’t write him off yet.

Show me where he ran out of bounds or it did not happen, Search on thread title
What's the word on Milton? and go to post number #242 and review the replay. Once he passed the LOS at the 10 he slowed down at the 8 for his only chance was for the defender to over pursue and give him a cutback lane and took a shot. He properly extended the play by running out of the pocket, kept looking down field for a receiver with defenders in chase, did not find a good risk shot and pullled it back down as he corssed the LOS. It is all there to see. Can you find ANY indication he was out of bounds? The trail official in perfect position did not. An early emotional game analysis by a hater that has been perpetuated without basis. He did not chuck up a prayer, YES. Stepping out at the 9 was an option that would have saved him a hard high lick by the defender, but he took the hit inbounds. You will find this is a real peave of mine.

Sports psychology is a weird thing. Milton had more than a few issues last year, and I think all of his problems may have simply been that he has always could get by with his physical tools alone. Maybe he just never got the refinement he needed from a coaching standpoint to compete with higher level talent. And his confidence had to take a beating last year. I’ve been harder on him than most, but I’m hopeful that he’s put it all together. I would love to be proven wrong about him. But if he does have it clicking, a whole lot of people better watch out.
