Tennessee Hiring Landry Jones as Offensive Analyst

As our new Offensive Analyst, here is my request to you Mr. Jones:

* In order to WIN games, focus on securing First Downs, NOT Touchdowns
* March down the field and stop looking for the homerun - especially when we are deep in our own territory
* If you focus on First Downs, we will secure all the Touchdowns we need to win a game
* Keep our Defense off the field so that they are fresh

I have no clue what an Offensive Analyst does btw, but you'll be the best ever if you follow my sage advice! Go Vols!
I have secondhand embarrassment from reading this.

We don't have route trees, our routes are based off of defense reactions. We work the middle instead of the sidelines. Our WR's have plenty of grass to run to.
And how has that worked the last 2 years? How’s it working for Hyatt in the NFL right now? Perhaps we should start doing some different stuff, because what we’re doing obviously isn’t working

The last 2 years we have dumbed down the offense. Our offense needs to go fast. We have not had WR's or a QB who could make the proper read.

many great college players are average in the league. There are heisman winners who don't do anything in the NFL. Doesn't mean they were not great in college.

Why aren't you our new offensive analyst? Kinda bold telling people in the business what to do and how to do it when they are in the football building and you are on a message forum.

Let's see 2022 we got huge chunk plays and were almost impossible to stop, 2024 we had bad WR play and tried to march down the field running the ball and controlling the game......which do you think we were better at?
I heard a stat one time from a very successful college DC. Basically said that you do not allow a 20yd play, that series had a very low chance of scoring and allowing less than five chunk plays a game nearly always resulted in a win. Drives that took ten or more plays rarely resulted in a td as well. The offenses would eventually stall due to penalties or turnovers.

Sounds about right. Those long sustained drives are very difficult to repeat over and over. You shorten the game which makes each possession even more important.

Also, you better not get behind by much because catching up is nearly impossible.

I know you mean well, but in our 2024 games against both Florida and Alabama, each opponent got more First Downs than Tennessee did. However, Tennessee got more Touchdowns, and as a result, won both of those games.
Hey, can we have more first downs and points? I'd take that.

I wouldn’t put Hyatt’s failures with the Giants on either Hyatt or Heupel.

It’s the Giants. Nobody in the NFL mismanages talent worse than them.

Running routes based on defensive reactions seems like a recipe for a loss. If this is true, I could set up a team to throw 5 interceptions in a game.

Our 2nd and ten offense is not the best ever.
