Tennessee fans are getting it. The University of Tennessee is now as much of a basketball school as it is a football school. Our fans enjoy the two sports and understand that be a winning basketball program does not take away from the football program and it is just as much fun to follow.

We have had a lot of fun following the Vols basketball success the past six years, with Bruce Pearl at the helm. We have also enjoyed the swagger and dynamic style that Bruce brought to the table. Together they brought basketball to the forefront of fans attention and our fans understand that you can be successful and enjoy two sports as much as they other. Basketball should not have to take backstage and be looked at as something to do to fill time between football seasons. Our national attendance and our NCAA success make it clear that we are a known basketball program with a fan base that loves and wants a successful basketball program. Florida, Michigan, Ohio State, Texas... formerly known as "football schools" - their fans get it....and now so do University of Tennessee fans.

Bruce Pearl, built this program and we have some players, who will test the NBA waters. Personally, I believe that both will likely return for one more season. As midwest radio personality Christopher Gabriel, put it to me, "This next hire is going to be huge. But I'm concerned we're looking to pick a hot flavor instead of waiting a week. Yes, we need to be expeditious, but we also need to build and move forward on what Bruce built". Christopher Gabriel added, "But I'm concerned we're looking to pick a hot flavor instead of waiting a week. Yes, we need to be expeditious, but we also need to build and move forward on what Bruce built. If we get a boring, walk-it-up coach who is aloof from everyone... that would be a step backwards ."

We will never be able to replace Bruce Pearl. It will be nearly impossible to find a coach who pressed fans buttons like Bruce Pearl did. He endeared himself to fans with his love for what he did and how he gave back a big part of himself to the fans in public. However, Christopher is right. We have to take or time and make a solid choice with this next pick. Do we keep level and move forward on the foundation that Bruce Pearl built? Or do we settle for flavor of the day or a "safe" pick that will scuttle the Vols momentum and send our program backwards?

There is no reason why our program can not continue to be successful. We will not find another coach with the swashbuckling flair of Bruce, but we can hire a very good basketball coach who can recruit, who can win, and who can make sure that basketball remains on the national basketball stage and keep UT basketball important with University of Tennessee sports fans. I can't wait for next basketball season.

Sorry but we pay market value for football coaches only. Fans may get it but admin doesn't.

I love vols basketball more than a lot of things in this world, but vols football is king by a large margin.

Yeah, I agree with Indianavol ... I support the Vols in EVERY sport. I enjoy basektball, and I get fired up whenever I get to watch them play. HOWEVER, Tennessee football is #1 and there isn't anything even remotely close to it.

Most UT fans get it. You can love both sports. UT is a major player on both stages. Florida fans, Ohio State fans, texas fans-all get it. I think that most UT fans get it. Those who don't get it, must be involved in some sort of fantasy macho world.

The fact is that Tennessee is a basketball school too. You can't deny that. Stats back my statement up.

i will agree that UT is a major player on both stages and that I, as a fan, can love both sports. However, i think you are delusional if you think most UT fans love basketball the same amount as they love football.

We aren't a basketball school until we do better than getting to the Elite Eight once. That's not exactly a winning tradition.

I wouldn't say we are as much of a basketball school as football, although basketball has been on the rise until the Bruce incident. I also don't think anyone wants to make a bad hire and everyone wants to be the best at every sport. OP, you expressed a very common opinion in too many words. However, I do love your passion for the Vols....here's to the future!

So there you have it. We're a football school. We dabble in basketball during the offseason.

I'm not sure if all those fans actually get it. Florida's basketball fan base is not that great, is it?

Either way, even if we all have preferences for one over another (usually football), we can still do both at a high level. Hopefully the administration is getting that.

How do you know? Do you talk with a majority of them?

If everyone took on your view, we would not be a player on the national stage in basketball.

Really....the reality has been that we are a football school that has dabbled in football for the past 6 years.

Exactly. Great fans get it and are not allowing either sport to get in the way of the other sport. They are both great and neither has to suffer at the expense of the other, as some fans think they have to.

To think that basketball has to suffer and take a backseat to football is small-minded.

I know a lot of people who like TN BB more than FB. There is a margin out there. TN's tradition of cource is in FB, but when TN wins in BB we show up other than maybe under Jerry Green. In attendance TN. is in the top 5 in all 3 (FB, MBB, WBB).

I will watch and support UT basketball no matter who our coach is....but it doesn't even come close to football!!!! I think the OP put crack in his coffee instead of sugar!!

I think it's fair to say that 75% of the UT fanbase would rather win the SEC in football than win the National Championship in basketball. Not myself or the maybe not even the majority of posters on this board but the fanbase as a whole. This is a football school and it's not even close.

Like others have already commented....this is crazy talk. And u r wrong.....florida/OSU/Texas might have really good bball Programs....but make no mistake about it....they r football schools. Just like Tennessee.

I'm going to assume u r just going for a reaction on this.
