Tennessee Is A Basketball and A Football School

What were we before Bruce Pearl came to Tennessee? Before Bruce came, UT fans wouldn't claim basketball as if it were a family member that robbed and killed or something. Football always has and always will be #1 at Tennessee!!

Let's look at it on the flip side.... Basketball is king in the entire state of Kentucky, we all know this. But no matter how much the football team improves or make it to a few bowls games. Basketball is still #1. Just ask Bear Bryant (if he were alive lol)

It would be cool to see the Bball team make the final four. But I would much rather have a NC in football. My generation would probably agree.

I like UT basketball considerably more than football.

IMO, that's due to football has been in a slump for a few years and Bball stock has risen in the past six years. When I was growing up nothing else mattered to us poor folks but UT football.

Anyone who claims UT is anything else but a football school has no clue.

That's not to say other sports can't succeed, because they obviously can. But Tennessee is and will always be football first and everything else second. Period.

Until we win a title in bball, no one will care near as much about it as they do football. The way we know it is like this is because during football season we talk only about football. Basketball doesnt even cross our mind. During basketball season we still talk about football all the time

How do you know? Do you talk with a majority of them?

If everyone took on your view, we would not be a player on the national stage in basketball.

Did you see the Buzz Peterson years? Then look at when we won 5 games in 08, 7 in 09, and 6 in 10, and tell me if the stadium still wasn't pretty damn full. If you don't know that this is more of a football school, then you need to be checked out. That being said, we can be both but still doesn't mean that we will be as much of a basketball school as a football school. That is ridiculous.

Why does it have to be classified at all? What are the benefits to putting limits on it?

No. It is not.

It is a football school that got lucky with a great hire in Pearl and will return to what it was now.

Alot people are going to be wishing UT had of kept Pearl like OSU kept Tressel and not hung him out to dry. Alot of people.

Pearl was gone back in the fall.

There is a diffence.

I am not condoning what Pearl did but acting like Pearl will be easily replaced is foolish. Our AD is a moron and needed to curb this.

Hamm needs to be kicked to the curb.

6 years of success doesnt make us a basketball school

ditto. there's a difference between recent success and being a traditional well-known basketball program. not saying that ut can't ever have great success in both......but football is still the "it" sport by miles here.

To many Tennessee fans, football is what is on there mind, but like it or not, due to our success on the hardcourt, to the outside sports world, Tennessee is both a basketball and a football school. There is nothing wrong with that and it is something we should aspire to keep.

Nothing but net: Basketball dollars by school

The University of Tennesseehad a men's basketball revenue of 12,576,715 and had men's basketball expenses of 5,464,911.

That is a profit of 7,111,804, a profit margin of of 56.5%.

How many programs do you see in this report that bested that?

Indiana University, North Carolina State, Syracuse, Arizona, Kansas, Minnesota, North Carolina, and Wisconsin were the only schools that made a bigger profit off of their men's basketball program.

Notice that most of these schools are all historically known for their basketball programs.
