well, thanks 66, and you're probably right...miracles don't come around that often for us...:)

GBO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With the season on the line UGA won a series vs UK and were on their way to winning the series vs Miss State. Vols, with the same situation, get embarrassed vs UK. They were never seriously in danger of winning even one of these games. Overmatched very badly by a good SEC staff.

Vols do not have one pitcher who would be a weekend starter for any other team and I don't know that they have any position players that would start for more than one or two SEC teams.

The really, really sad thing is that the bar for several people is simply making it to Hoover.

Obviously not a Vols fan, but I believed it was NCAA regional or bust. So, this was over a long time ago.

I don't know why making it to Hoover is such a big deal. I understand those who attend the tournament and want to see the Vols. I get that. I don't get that being an acceptable accomplishment at this point in Serrano's time at Tennessee.

If he had other good years and tournament berths and this year was a down year, that's one thing. But, that's not the case.

I don't think squeaking into the SEC tournament is the bar for anyone. As you mentioned, a regional was out the window long ago, so the SEC tourney is all we have left. Plus, not making the conference tournament is embarrassing. There is a difference between wanting to make the tournament and thinking it is acceptable at this point.

I got the sense that several people thought he should keep his job if Tennessee made it to Hoover.

There are a lot of those out there.

Pretty sad that the bar has been lowered to that level for some.

No need to even wait at this point, IMO. Make the announcement this week that UT will have a new coach next season and let Dave be properly appreciated this weekend. He is a good guy. He simply hasn't done what he needed to in order to earn a new contract. Unfortunately, being a good guy just isn't enough in the SEC. You have to win games, no matter what the sport.

Past time to make a change.

Oh there is/was definitely one or two that were pushing that; I don't know if they came out and said it exactly like that but they sure gave the strong impression.

The truth is we don't deserve to go to Hoover. We've won one SEC series this year and both of those games went to extra innings and we won each by one run against a UF team that was having trouble at the plate at the time. That's it.

I hate it for the kids. I hate it for the fans like feathersax that will go to Hoover whether UT does or not.

Best case scenario is a 10 win SEC season if we sweep Mizzou...that's not good enough for a coach in his 6th season.

Coming into today you had two avenues to Hoover, by finishing ahead of UGA or, however unlikely, by sweeping Missouri head to head. Missouri beat SC today, though, so basically the Vols have to win at least two if not all three and hope that a SC team that's absolutely on the ropes wakes up and sweeps UGA.

It will be interesting to see what South Carolina does with Holbrook. There is some unrest among their fanbase for a couple of years and they have lost SEVEN consecutive SEC series.

They started off 5-1, and haven't been swept so they have been in NCAA contention for a long time, but they may fall out if they go out with a whimper next week.

I think a lot of people have felt like the loss of their ace pitcher would provide an excuse and buy Holbrook another year, but Carolina takes baseball very seriously and if they miss the NCAAs for the second time in his five year tenure, I wonder if they will make a move.

I pray we make it to Hoover but either way Serrano should be fired... we deserve better as a fan base and the players deserve better also... our players look half the size as every other team... we should coast in to the tournament each year, but instead we are trying to slide by...heck Kentucky is ahead of us and candy is pretty much ahead of us in all sports.... got to get it together

I dare say BruinVol is even ready to give up on this six year experiment now.

This weekend drove home everything we already knew. Not enough SEC arms and definitely not enough bats. We are effectively 2 games back going to the last weekend to make it to Hoover in year 6 of Dave Serrano. The magical reset after he fired coaches doesn't matter right now. This team stinks.

The interesting question is how much would UT offer a new head coach if CDS is fired?

I think a 5 year deal starting at 450,000 a year would be reasonable..........

Thoughts?

I see no scenario where a proven baseball coach would come to UT. School has a reputation for not supporting the program like others in the SEC. To blame CDS for all the problems is absurd. From scholarships to promotion of the team, everything is lacking.
