Tennessee Lady Vol News

Really looking forward to the Georgia game. Another opportunity for us to pick up a road win in the SEC.

We have a week off here to get some rest, practice and recovery therapy which is much needed at this point. Hopefully it gives TK enough time to get mostly sorted out. We will need her size against UGA. If she is not able to go much we may actually see Emily more in that game. Green plays so hard but will be very undersized against Staiti.

Props to everyone involved for how we have handled COVID this season. Having minimal issues gives us an opportunity like this to rest. Many schools will have to play games on their bye days to makeup lost ground.

Against UGA I could see us playing some zone again. They aren’t a terrible 3pt% shooting team at 31% but have only made 57 on the season. That is where they miss Connally and Caldwell. They were two players that kept a defense honest from the outside. Getting to the paint is definitely their forte and teams that win in that fashion have really struggled against us this year.

Barker has improved her 3 point shooting but it’s still not a default shot for her and she is not the best at getting space. Has to hit a lot of tough fadeaway shots which are even more difficult against our length.

UGA will be playing 3 games in 6 days this week and we get them for the third game. We should have a distinct stamina advantage but may be a little rusty to start. UGA will play on the road at MIZZOU today, MSST Thursday then back home to meet us Sunday. Lots of travel and playing two really scrappy teams before us should have them worn out. Especially MIZZOU, tough team to play any season due to their physical nature, but this season in particular. They are tough to beat at home.

Would be great to see if Tamari could put weight on her ankle today. I'm thinking were going to need to play Georgia without her. Looks like about a two week injury more than likely. This gives them an advantage inside as Key usually stuffs Staiti when we play them. We lost last season because of their guards being able to make threes. Look forward to the game is we win this one on the road then look out cause Auburn, Florida, Bama, and SC will be the only road games we have left.

I don’t think so. Based on Kellie’s comments it sounds like she will play just not certain how much. TK was all smiles in the post game celebration and it looks like she had two shoes on and not a boot or something liked you’d expect with a severe sprain.

Based on the post-game reactions I actually wonder if she did not hurt it previously either in practice or a game. She has not been moving/jumping as well the last 3 games really. Makes you wonder if it’s not been an ongoing issue she re-tweaked last night.

I think we may have all misread Kellie’s worried expression after halftime. Actually wonder if she was just emotional because it was we back Pat. She made comments that hearing her voice during the game really threw her off. I can’t even imagine! I get emotional when I hear Pat speak, I’m sure it’s 10 fold for someone like Kellie who had such a direct relationship to her both as a person and as Pat’s player.

I hope your right she was putting no weight on it in the pre-game celebration. Of course with minor ankle injuries that can happen and a day or two later you are much better. Let's hope this is true.

You make a good point.
I remember Kellie being asked how she heard anything from the bench during a game because the arena could be so loud. She said during a game she never heard anything but Pat’s voice.
Hearing Pat’s voice again in TBA during a game……

I also noticed the coaches carrying her into the locker room for the cellybration. Don’t think they’re be rough housing with her like that had it been serious.

That was my thought. I actually think they were going to “scare” her teammates carrying her in like that. Trying to make them think she was injured worse. Since the team was doing the Namaste with their eyes closed they didn’t notice 😂

The attendance is posted as 10, 012 fans at the Kentucky game. That seems like an awesome number for a day with such bad weather. On the season were only average about 7600 a game think if you can get 10,000 a game for the remaining five home games would hike the average to about 8300 a game for the season.

I think we might have a hard time getting over 10,000 except for our two remaining Sunday game. The last game of the season is a Sunday one against LSU with both teams likely to be in the Top 10 with possible SEC title implications. In other words, possibly are biggest home game in several years. Also, by that late February date the Omicron virus is supposed to be long peaked out. Therefore, a conservative goal is 12,000+ and a hoped for goal is 14,000+.

What is interesting in that the next 10 teams receiving votes include 5 that we have beaten (Va Tech, UCF, USF, Ole Miss, and Kansas), which adds a lot of depth to our quality win total.
Wow! I haz an amaze. Curiosity got the best of me so I wandered over to the-boneyard. Not sure who the voters are but I’m impressed:
