Tennessee Lady Vol News

Apparently LA added her to the roster without signing her first 🤣 She signed a hardship contract with the Lynx today 😀

Makes me think she’s still gonna end up in LA long term.

Hope so anyway. I don’t like the Lynx and I especially hate the way their coach manages players. Why TF she does the things she does I’ll never know. Rennia is the best forward on their roster at the moment.

She has several players still that I just don’t think are WNBA caliber anymore.

Achonwa is on a guaranteed contract, so they are stuck with her.

Carlton...she must either be the life of the party or have some incriminating photos of Reeves.

Banham...not sure what she sees that she would cut the rest of the PGs from the roster.

Everyone else looks fine, I think.

I think Achonwa sucks honestly. Like not that bad, but I seriously don’t get it. I never thought she was that special in college and I’ve never seen it at the wnba level. It’s beyond me how she’s still in the league and why she would have a guaranteed contract. She’s barely ever broken double figure scoring (one season she averaged 10ppg) and she’s not a good rebounder.

She has a great basketball build but has never been fully healthy that I can recall and just isn’t that productive. Why keep someone like that around when you have super talented younger players?

I think sometimes it comes down to personalities. I don't know what Achonwa's personality is like, but I do know Rennia is pretty quiet and not very demonstrative. She can sometimes get a hang-dog look on her face and in her body language if things aren't going her way. I have been hoping she'd start speaking up and making sure her teammates recognize her as a great teammate.

Obviously the most important thing is to be a good scorer, rebounder, passer and defender. But in this brutal business where there are so many good players and coaches sometimes just have to find SOME kind of differentiator other than skills and/or experience, maybe sometimes they DO decide to choose the life of the party over the wallflower. Just a thought.

If wnba coaches are making decisions on personality that’s a problem. The league needs talent. Not friends.

Seems to me good chemistry would be just as important at the professional level as it is the collegiate level. If you like your teammates a lot, you'll be more likely to have their backs. And throw them the ball when they're open.

Somewhat, but at that point you’re a pro. I’ve not always liked all my co-workers but I still showed up to work every day and gave my best.

I can see being concerned about fit and personality at the college level. At the pro level you need to have the best athletes on your roster. Period. Otherwise the league is going nowhere.

Sure, I agree that, ideally, everyone should act like pros and not necessarily need to like each other in order to win. Of course. But my original point was really that, if a coach who is trying to trim a roster is trying to decide between two players she or he considers equally talented, then the coach might (understandably, IMO) choose to base the final decision on who everyone seems to like having around the most.

P.S. I vaguely recall seeing some clips of Achonwa playing overseas in the last year in which she was lighting it UP and getting lots of praise on the internet. Maybe she made an impression strong enough to last. I don't know -- never followed her at all.

Interesting! Those messy South Carolina fans interviewing our girl!

Rickea did super well… they had one or two moments of being shady… specifically Andrew whom I now have a distaste for because people pandering in order to gain an audience or to be accepted gets under my skin. I was nervous for her because I’ve heard others slip up and say something that could bite them in the behind but she did a great job. They also did a really good and respectful job honestly

He DEFINITELY rubbed me wrong and was trying to be shady! Him bringing up Pat was uncalled for knowing how people in that space has commented on her before. I agree, he definitely made the comments to try to “fit in.”
