Tennessee Lady Vol News

Exactly. As a paying customer I feel like I'm getting a worse product. Because I'm a season ticket holder who doesn't enjoy blowouts no matter what end of them I'm on, esp not this many. Used to be maybe 2 or 3 really low ranked teams. Now it's only a few who aren't. Weeks without competitive games.

For sure, cupcakes are being redefined. Esp if you think we only played four. But listen to what you said: "the others are pretty close to being almost at the edge of being competitive with our level of play". That's a cupcake game friend, and no where near parity.

In spite of the trend toward under scheduling, I really don't think CKC will jump on that sad bandwagon. She seems too driven and ferocious. Also too smart while trying to shove the program back over the top. As a paying customer, I feel sure things will get somewhat better in future seasons around here.
And you can’t have parity of upper tier “cupcakes” just play themselves…which is why Pat agreed to Geno’s request to playing UConn years ago. Regardless of who we play, we’ll get to the tournament which is when it all shakes out for real.

There's a world of ground between helping legit mid major teams who are just outside the higher level and playing teams in the 250-300 range who have no hope of being competitive at this level. Parity gets helped by the first, but not the second. UConn wasn't that far behind when Pat started playing them.

I do predict teams start fouling us more in the SEC so I hope to see our free throw shooting improve to around 75% for the team. Against more athletic teams a lot of our uncontested runouts will be contested so I expect us at the line more and we need to finish through contact.

It was good to start the year and has wavered recently. Spencer and Spearman get there the most. Sam in particular should be better than 55%, I don’t like the catch and chuck method she’s using at the moment. Latham is also pretty good at getting to the line but only shooting 44% she doesn’t finish well through contact at the moment either. So she either has to get the bucket or make the FTs can’t take empty possessions on those that much.
Sam Spencer missed a free throw shot in Tennessee as a freshman that would have potentially won Arkansas the game and was devastated by her reaction and had to be consoled by Mike Neighbors. I think that is part of the reason she went to this catch and shoot style of free throw shooting. Hopefully her shot comes along cause if we get in close games, the point guard is the most probably going to be getting the ball and getting fouled.

Do you think any of our seniors will get drafted this year??
Even with a very weak draft this year, no. Outside chance Jewel gets a tryout somewhere along the way.

People don't realize how hard it is to make a roster. Most beyond the 8th to 10th pick in the first round won't stick. Also there are lots of international players.

I think Spencer could be a deep round pick. Her PG skills have improved drastically and she’s hitting the deep three at a great %.

Otherwise, no.

Samara Spencer is going to be a 1st Round draft pick. Stay away from all the Mock Draft predictions until after the NCAA tourney.
Spencer was going to get drafted had she remained at Arkansas, since coming to Tennessee her draft stock has risen.
Jewel Spear has a shot at getting drafted as well.

True, though 11-12 new spots open up in the league with the addition of Golden State, then in 2026 another 22-24 spots will be added with the addition of Portland and Toronto. Some of those slots will be taken by international players and veterans given another shot, but I do think it will increase the number of 2nd round players who stick, at least for a season or two.

Jewel's stats are down this year but I think she'll get a shot. She's made it onto a couple of FIBA USA teams, including in 2021 when she only played in one game (I guess due to an injury?), but she started over players like Sonia Citron and Azzi Fudd, and was the game's 2nd-leading scorer. And then of course she was a starter again with Rickea on the 2023 team (over other guards like Laila Phelia and Chance Gray).

None of the seniors, but I think some of the transfers have a good chance. Spearman has the kind of athleticism you are looking for would have to improve her skills. Whitehorn has a definite shot if she keeps improving this year and next. Cooper looks like a lock to me barring some bad fortune.

Disagree.
I totally agree on disagreeing!! I love when we blow teams out. Too stressful in close games. My nerves and heart can't handle it. I'm getting too old and honestly it's hard for me to watch a really close game because my heart pounds out of my chest. I guess that's just being a diehard fan. Would love to see a natty for both ball teams and the football team before I leave this world.

Also it allows our young/bench players to get valuable minutes and experience which could become very helpful entering SEC play. For example, Kariya Boyd has really showed improvement as of late. Realize her. And with the incoming freshman next year and the girls returning, we should be a force. But still looking forward to this year and see how we do as year goes on.

UConn was not even close.
