Tennessee Lady Vol News

Why the heck are we playing Uconn in the middle of conference play when no other SEC team is dipping out of conference? I thought we were not doing this anymore, that it was a Gino/Pat rivalry that we've moved on from? Not good timing and placement IMO, to have to get up for a big game like that, even at home, and have it wedged in between coming back from Mizz on Sunday and then going back on the road to LSU that weekend...Is this something UTAD wanted to bring back? If so, I wonder why?
You must be new lol we’ve done it for about 5 years now

And I’ve hated every single one of them. It’s advantage UConn everytime. They get to prepare playing awful Big East teams and resting players.

We have to play them crammed between top 15 teams usually. Game does nothing for basketball anymore either, there is no rivalry there since Pat died so I see no reason to play it.

One could argue that the game is important from an historical perspective for the game of WBB as it matches the two all time best programs against one another. I think it is good for the sport, and it always garners national attention. If/once UT starts winning some of these matchups again it will only increase the spotlight on the rivalry, which is good for both squads. No other WBB rivalry is as nationally relevant, and I doubt CKC will try to drop it. She wants to get UT back to where they are winning this game which will increase her recruiting efforts and national attention as a program. She can do it.

If there’s any team in WBB that can play four Top 10 teams and go on the road to face one of their SEC foes in Missouri over a stretch of five games and win them all my money is on the Lady Vols.
Tennessee is a strong road team that I believe is poised to contend with anyone in the SEC. They won’t overlook Missouri and will play this game hard for four quarters of basketball.
I think chances are very good that the LVs can take games against LSU and Texas on the road to the final minute with a chance to win it. Stay out of foul trouble and rebound in both games I’m confident the Lady Vols win.
Connecticut is facing Tennessee at the wrong time of the year and I believe the Lady Vols can beat them in CKC first year coaching. South Carolina and Tennessee will have all of the hype surrounding this game following the LVs going on the road to face Texas.
There’s something special being built on Rocky Top.
GBO!

100%. That's a tough ass stretch. Winning two would be a nice step forward. I believe the LVs will keep all of them relatively close.
Agreed. Winning 2 would mean taking down at least one of the big dogs and that would be huge...leaning on Iowa and Fla St as signature wins is looking more flimsy by the day.

Starting 1/23/25, UT will play a 5 game stretch that looks like this:

1/23 @ #7 Texas
1/27 vs #2 SC
2/2 @ Mizzou
2/6 vs #6 UCONN
2/9 @ #5 LSU

Winning 3 or more of those games would certainly help seeding for March.
Yep I like the or more. This team is about to turn the corner. Just getting back on defense is really hard to get in a full court press. Looked much better against the hogs . I know there not as talented as these top 4 but they were getting back.

If you like stats, this site is for you (and me).
It gives all the SEC stats for teams and individual players. They have all the stats for all games played and just SEC games played. I was interested in the SEC game stats played, as I think we played a fairly hard schedule there with 2 top 10 teams mixed with two bottom dwellers. It seems like the addition of ranked teams didn't really change our stats much. For SEC games only, we still are tops in scoring, steals, and offensive rebounds. That says a lot given that this includes 3 of the top 6 teams in the country. Despite our weak non-conference schedule, we actually have better rankings in assists for conference games (2nd) than for all games (4th). I think this is proof that our players are beginning to jell on offense and how Spencer has been wonderful. The one positive stat that I didn't expect is that we are 2nd in 3-point shooting defense. I think are 3-point defense has been okay at best, so I agree with coach that missed 3 pointers is more related in this case to our system wearing out the other teams. Three-point shooting is the first to suffer when fatigued. We continue to be last in overall FG defense and free throw percentages (just 62% in conference games). The latter stat is shocking and it easily cost us both of the games we lost. This conference is so competitive that you can't afford to miss so many free throws. I sure hope this improves. I am probably statting people out, so I will save a summary of the individual stats for another time unless you want to check them out with the link.

Thanks for sharing. The fact we've played two of the best (or near best in OK case) and two of the worst kind of cancels the SEC stats out at this point.
