Tennessee Lady Vol News

Per Madison Blevins, Marta Suarez is out for the season with a foot injury.
Wish there was a "Don't Like" button for news like this:( Wishing Marta a speedy recovery!! Foot surgeries take a lot of time to heal correctly. I have been through one and I swear it took me 2 years to get it as good as it is going to be again. Kinda sucks for her though. You can tell she loves the game of basketball!

Significant loss for Tennessee as she was probably slated to be first/second off the bench. Looks like Puckett or Wynn will have an opportunity to play a lot to make up for her absence. Puckett in particular should be a natural fit as a combo forward.

Based on how Kellie has spoken recently I believe she had moved further down the rotation. Actually think Green will be first off the bench and would have been even if Marta were healthy.

Actually better for her to call it now and redshirt rather than attempt to play and then sit and lose eligibility.

Puckett will be getting plenty of time from the sound of things and will be a key part of the rotation.

Tess will also get more minutes this season. I’ve heard she’s really been shooting the ball hot and we’re in a position now that we can have her in and only expect her to do that. We have some better athletes with Dye and a healthy Horston and Burrell in the mix so they can help better defensively to make up for the younger/slower players.

If we were going to lose one player the PF spot is where we have some redundancy. Not the case last season. Healthy Green (even though she’s working back a bit still) plus the addition of Dye and Puckett really shored up that area.

I am Loving that we have 3 on watchlists, potentially 4 with the addition of Key. Hopefully, that makes them all want to play to their full potential this year and elevate this program to the next level!

Means Kellie has been doing some politicking as well which we have been missing. We were out of the conversation with Holly because she wasn’t part of the conversation. She thought people would just hand UT players awards like they did when Pat was coach. If you’re building a legacy you have to go to bat for her players.

Rennia should have been on these lists as a sophomore but I don’t believe she was until she was a senior. Holly wasn’t promoting her which is sad. Should have been AA as well.

Marta Suarez out for the season was unexpected after she played this summer but hopefully problems will be resolved and she will return in 2022-2023 season. She had this most of last season and then got better to play this summer and it returned. Looks to be chronic hopefully will be able to continue basketball in the future. Karoline Striplin and Sara Puckett along with Cheney Green will be the ones we depend on along with Key and Saunders to work our inside game. I think offensively were going to see a lot of 1-4 sets with Key being the only inside player.

Sara Puckett time.
She has always been the freshman that I thought would have the best chance to play huge minutes or even start before the season was over. She has the basketball IQ of a senior just has to get used to the speed of the game much faster than Alabama high school. All four freshmen give us talented quality depth.

Does anyone know if the Exhibition Game on November 3rd will be televised or live streamed anywhere? I cannot find anything on it yet.
