Tennessee & Nico Iamaleava are in active contract negotiations ahead of the 2025 season

The On3 guy should be fired. He's trying to incite naive Vols fans into booing our QB at the spring game. The "rumor" is 🐂 💩. The sentence that "it is unclear whether" Nico will enter the portal is a mainstay of lying "attack" journalism. You can write "it is unclear whether" about anything. Usually means the reporter made it up for clickbait reasons. It doesn't even need to be sourced.

Ryan Callahan & Chris Hummer say “the family is happy with their contract” per a close family friend.

Well if he read the crap in this thread he's hitting the portal

Updated contract agreements have been made across college football the last several weeks ahead of April 16's opening of the spring window to no fanfare, which is why sources at Tennessee say they were caught off guard when they saw their business being aired out on social media Thursday. The act could provide interested schools daylight to gauge Iamaleava's interest. Sources around Tennessee tell CBS Sports there are multiple parties involved in Iamaleava's camp, though his dad, Nicholaus, runs the show.

"The family are happy (with Tennessee)," said Cordell Landers, a close friend of the Iamaleavas. Landers is a former assistant director of player personnel at Florida who also works with a number of notable players from California. "There are no (contract negotiations), they're happy with the contract they have."

Last week, a rumor rippled through the West Coast that Iamaleava may be interested in testing the portal waters. When reached then about that possibility, one source at Tennessee expressed little concern about the Vols' standing with Iamaleava. Sources Thursday remained reasonably nonplussed about Iamaleava leaving Tennessee, though sources close to the situation would not fully rule it out.

This is a business, and these players are now professionals. So, there will be questions that are asked about the situation. Whether that player decides to answer those are obviously up to them, but it's hard to run from this type of situation when it plays out in the public eye.

Whoever decided to let it be known that Nico Iamaleava was looking for more money did the quarterback zero favors in the process. This exact situation is going on all around the country right now in college athletics, with a number of high-dollar deals being done over the past few months for multiple college football players that are worth the money. But, you didn’t hear about them for a reason.

As for Nico Iamaleava, at some point you have to tell the folks representing you that it's not worth the backlash to make stuff like this public, and it's not the reporters' fault for doing their job.

Dude the second we ran out without shirts on… I looked at my buddies and said we just lost
That was the stupidest/fake tough guy thing you could do… it’s their home stadium.. like who were we trying to be. Shame on Josh for letting that happen honestly. That’s not being focused on the prize and it showed

Some of yall are morons. Let him walk and tank our season? Lmao. I get it. No one likes it, but welcome to college sports in 2025. Adapt or get left behind.
Letting a QB's Dad and people continue to hold your coaching staff and team hostage (if this is even true) won't tank a season? This isn't just an NIL thing, this isn't happening with every player. This is a highly touted QB who got ridiculous money before he stepped foot on campus whose Dad/handlers have now twice pulled this stunt. A highly touted and highly paid QB who hasn't lived up to the hype or the money as if yet. At some point you call their bluff and are willing to ride it out without him. IF the reports are true.

Won't tank our season. Nico was pretty much a game manager last year. Merk could do the same or maybe even better. Hopefully Nico steps it up this year if he stays though.

It's time to tell Nico to sit down and shut up, or show him the door. He has show much talent, but our offense was so limited last year, because he could only take in so much. It might cost us this year, but we have to let the team know if you want more, you do it at the end of the year, not spring practice. This is for the kids who realize they are not getting playing time. Next man up, we have been hearing good things about him.

IMO it feels to me like they wanted more money, got assurances they would get it, and now they are putting this out there because they don't like the bit of backlash they've gotten. I could absolutely be wrong.

I don't blame them. It's the system as it is, get what you can when you can. But it's having an effect on fans. Or me anyway. My first reaction when I read this was "well, that sucks. We can get somebody else." I couldn't have imagined thinking that about Peyton or Casey or Heath, etc.

I'll still watch, of course. But I couldn't name 6 kids we signed this year when I used to know every name. It's just.....different.

Feel the same way. Used to be I knew every players hometown and a little background. Now there’s no reason to get personally invested at all. I’ll still watch also but now I enjoy watching the kids from my old high school, Oakland, play wherever they may be and watching their games just as much but it won’t be long until high school sports get just as polluted.

I once had a boss who was convinced everyone was out to get her. No one was. But her paranoia and its effects ultimately became a self-fulfilling prophecy, and she got herself fired - through no one's actions but her own.

Same kind of thing is happening here, in my opinion. When people in our fanbase lose their minds over an unsourced article and start hurling insults at a QB who may well have done nothing to deserve it, our fans may end up causing a problem where there wasn't one.

Weird thing to be upset about. I thought it was cool.

Had we won the game it would have been considered an epic move. We were trying to make a statement to them that the cold doesn’t bother us.

I just hope fans realize this stuff trickles down. At the end of the day, it's coming out of the fanbase's pockets one way or another.

Ticket prices, talent fee, maybe up the lukewarm beer to $25 per can, Neyland ozone intake fee, perhaps a "just because we can" fee.

The university knows how passionate our fans are, and they'll pick your wallets clean for it. When they announced the talent fee, they basically sold it to us as, "winning comes at a price, so pay us more money and we'll maybe possibly potentially hypothetically theoretically and perhaps win the SEC once every 30-40 years after paying several hundred million to several hundred players over the course of those decades."

No. The fan base here isn't different then anywhere else.

No doubt.

They also know that the large majority haven't figured that out or they don't care. We are there for the picking.

This crap couldn’t be reported on Sunday???

No hard feelings on Nico, but I like Merklinger and he can win at Tennessee.

I’m always defending Nico, but Spyre resources aren’t infinite and he has a whole team looking to him for leadership. Honor your standing contract, that allowed you to sit 1 year and make 2 million on the bench…

He is Samoan so I’m not surprised.

This is ALWAYS a thing with them. Same thing with the olineman at Miami and Tua for the Dolphins. Huge family always looking to leech.

As much as I hate to say it-buh bye. We ARE NOT a playoff team this coming season

Nico has been a huge disappointment and his hands out family are getting a bit annoying.

Perhaps his brother at Arkansas will live up to the hype.

Let George and Meerk battle it out for this season and probably next. Whoever loses the battle is probably gone next year anyway. Faison coming in next season to take over after getting a bit of experience.

We are not in bad shape

Difference between 8 and 9 wins this coming season is just not worth all the nonsense.
How in the world is 10-2 and our first playoff a huge disappointment what program have yall been watching the past 20 years… he made big time plays to win the bama game… yeah he was baptized by fire in the sec but I can remember at least 500 yards and 5+ tds dropped or called back due to penalty in multiple games… like do yall actually watch the games ??? Our offense was so close last year but just weird… Sampson had his fumble spell that ended td drives, OL got holding, WRs had drops, Nico had inaccurate throws as well… his numbers don’t tell the full story… Every week it was a diff unit but we found a way to win double digit games… it’s something to be said about a Qb that helps teams find a way to win… we had plenty in the past that found ways to lose… the ppl constantly bashing Nico need to have perspective… I want us to keep Nico and I’m sure This is blown out of proportion.

I would absolutely tell Nico to hit the road. Don’t try and tell me what I would it would t do. He isn’t worth his original NIL deal. Players deserve to be paid? Let’s be honest here. How many of these players woild realistically ever get a chance to go to college or make it to the NFL if the universities didn’t break the rules and give them everything? You ever listen to the way many of these guys speak? I wonder if many of them could even pass 8th grade English. Travis Henry could barely read or write.

The players never deserved this kind of power they have now.
Good thing you not the coach right… And using a few examples to characterize a whole group is silly
