With Neyland home field I could see us force Bama into mistakes and win the game. I could also see us get trounced w no offense. We are going to have to play a clean game and run the ball.
All we do is run...... We need to get the passing game going or it'll be more of the same

Defense will have to play balls out, all game. They kept this team in the Ark game, won the UF game. Can they for a third time? It shouldn't have to come to this, as it seems when UT plays it's true hurry up offense, they can move the ball.

We had 14-3 lead against Arkansas and gave up a last minute td to UF. The defense has played great at times but also been completely lost at times.

What about something in between. A great football game with its ebbs and flows for each team? That's more likely than the two extremes you mention. Every team needs a boisterous crowd, but ultimately the crowd won't have anything to do with execution on our end. It may cause Bama to make some pre-snap errors but we must be efficient with our offense. If we run it 35 times we will win

Overall it has been stout. Breakdowns occasionally occur, AND our opponents have great players who can make great plays. Many of our couch clowns forget that fact

Also, other team's coaches can scheme great plays. Because it works doesn't mean our coaches weren't doing their jobs

It happens, Ole Miss chocked on D against LSU when they needed a stop.

I'll say this about this game, if Tennessee lets Alabama dictate the game like we let Florida they'll finish the game. They have too many athletes everywhere to play conservative and lean entirely on the defense to bail you out repeatedly. Their offense is good enough to make you pay if you continuely give them the ball. I'm surprised the line isn't 5 or 6 points.

Alabama is the clear favorite so we can approach the game as a n underdog, at home, with nothing to lose. We are a mile from being a playoff contender right now. Good news is that there is over a month of football left to get better.

VOLUNTEERS approach this game as Tennessee vs alabama... It's still the biggest game of our lives...

I agree with you 100% This type of game plan works on the weaker teams but not on the better teams.

Have you seen Nico last 3 games he is struggling right now. Hopefully that stops Sat
Imo he is struggling because of offensive game plan. We have totally changed offensive scheme, the scheme they have practiced on for months, and changed it 3 or 4 weeks ago. I think Nico needs to be turned loose and let him play and more called runs for him.

Right now we are playing not to lose.
Very Conservative on Offense..
Play calling not there, not sure what is going on.
So you think when Squirrel was wide open on those bombs was bad play calling that IMO was 2 TDs we left on the field. The coaches scheme that up everyone has to execute. Some of the play calling got conservative but when you leave 14 points left on the field and instead of TDs it's 2nd and 10 not only missed a TD but put the O behind the chains.

Bama is not great but we should NOT be favored at all. We are worse than they are. Mitlon will have his way with us.

I think we have come to expect too much from a Freshman QB his first year in the SEC. Expectations were too high and the OL is not exactly stellar. You want to compare him to a RS Senior then go for it. Otherwise have patience. We probably left 28 points on the field. No Thorton or McCoy on the field.

You cant reasonably look at it both ways. Ppl saying coach's are too conservative etc.. Then the same ppl that were touting Nico as a Heisman candidate. The O line is not great but on 2 bombs he had plenty of time and left the TDs on the field. I mean if you're a coach after 3 wide open misses do you keep going for it and put your run game behind the chains. I mean it puts the coach's in a conundrum. That's why the coach's get paid so much and why the QB gets paid so much. Its got to be figured out one way or the other.

we'll probably have to put a spy on the qb and I'm worried about our secondary and him making pass plays. Hopefully we can get some quick pressure on him

our oline MUST step up and Nico has to play better as well

we really just need things to go our way... it won't be like 2022, but we need the breaks to fall that way

You are just here for an argument or a discussion? Counter it anyway you want, but you can have it both ways when you are speculating. Nico is good but nobody realistically believed that he is a Heisman Candidate today, in the future, maybe so.
Sampson would receive more votes today than Nico.
Your Analysis is a little off and we paid Nico what we paid him, can't fix that. Paid him on potential.
Identify the problems and fix them, we will be alright. Only 1 true Freshman starter from the beginning of the season won a NC.
I don't see what your point is that has not already been stated over and over.
Who cares about the touting it both ways it is call fandom. Can't question his talent because he is wet behind the ears. Doesn't mean he can't reach his talent.

Get some better run blocking out of the O Line and let Nico get a couple of designed QB runs as well as a couple of roll outs and we have a very good chance.

On the D, keep doing what they do and bring the house !!!

I know we've been bad on offense but Alabama is not very good on defense. Maybe this is when Nico gets his confidence back? They gave up 40 points to Vandy and 25 to a bad USC team. They allowed 165 yards on the ground at Vandy whose QB ran for a bunch too and over 130 yards to SC on the ground. And roughly 250 through the air against both. Not including the second half against Georgia where they were torched through the air. I know we're not Georgia yet but there were plenty of plays left out there on Saturday. I think we're capable.

If Vandy can beat them, so can we!
Vandy played a near perfect game. I believe if the Vols were to play a near perfect game, we blow bama out by 30.

I do wonder, since the OU game where Heupel said he intentionally went conservative if he hasn't been saving something for this game and for uga? It would mean he terribly underestimated the hogs and gators, but maybe he is just ballsy enough to try it?

Play calling is fine. Execution is awful.
OT's whiffing on rushers and putting us in the hole with false starts and holding.
Nico missing wide open WR's.
Clean up those things and we beat anybody, anywhere.

Secret Florida / Bama / UGA playbook survives into another season!

I think we see a few new wrinkles but more or less the same scheme on O. As others pointed out, tackle and RB pass pro has been bad and Nico has missed a few TDs too. That means the plays are there and Heupel could argue he doesn’t need to change much.
