Tennessee Softball 2023

Our coaching staff receives harsh comments when we don't perform (sometimes deserved). When we do well the staff deserves recognition. Our softball team was ready to play tonight. Congratulations to everyone who had a hand in getting us ready. Keep it going!
Couldn't believe Lair, nothing. She was off tonight. No problem, I'm sure she will get it back.

Strange move coach of LSU vs Oklahoma, the subbed the pitcher, nobody on base, 2 outs, she struck out the batter looking good, then out(Chaffin), brought in a pitcher with 5 appearances this season(Casanova). It worked she struck her out to end the inning.

Oh yeah 3-0 OU bottom 4th

3-0 OU final

They hung with them just don’t have the hitting against elite pitching. Oklahoma is going to win a lot but they are not going to cake walk through the SEC.

Agreed, even though they've got 1 loss so far, I don't think it's a slam dunk.

Sure was nice(UT) seeing the hitting taking off. Now just keep it up.

I still don’t like Ahlin as dh. If she is not in the field we have better batters.

Who that is healthy is a better batter? Based on what we've seen on TV, Pannel and Keane are in slings and Rodriguez is in a boot or a cast, hard to tell. Assume they're all out for an extended period. With that, they seem to be platooning the DP slot between Ahlin and Brockenbrough, who has only had one hit since the Alabama series. Ahlin gives them speed in the 9 slot, which isn't a bad idea. Had a hit today.

Ashley once upon a time, she could bat. Be a way that she could be available for pitching. lol

Brylee is even faster, Brockenbrough"s one hit would put her on par with Ahlin (though she did slap one today ) with much more potential for damage. I wish we did have Destiny but she has fallen under our boot curse. I would ride with Brockenbrough. Ahlin has had a ton of at bats compared to Brylee but Brylee can fly. She is batting .400 in her limited at bats. Give her some of those at bats and see what she can do with them. Destiny was in a walking boot last week and wasn't moving well.

This is the worse and i have seen Lvs bad bunting team ever. I am sure this is the one fundamental of the game that most coaches ignore. There are examples a many where we look pitiful. The slump Liar and others are in can be helped with good bunting which means watching the ball better but what do i know other than 50 plus years of coaching and playing the game of baseball and softball. Makes an old man want to spit tobacco !!!

Lair is just in a mini slump and last night she just wasn't seeing their pitchers. She will come round. The one at bat last night where she was called on to move the runners everyone knew it including VT so there is no need to be slap bunting or moving while bunting. Just make sure to get it down and get the job done. Don't make the job harder for no real benefit. Not a big fan of the short game in modern softball but there are times to move runners. LSU last night did most everything right last night against Oklahoma but they are caught this year without power in most of their lineup. Makes it really hard to have come backs against good teams and pitching.

I am glad we have mostly got away from small ball but everyone in the lineup should be able to bunt if needed. Another fundamental along with base running that is needed as well.

Picked up a bat and practiced the split grip. I don't see how anybody could hit like that and especially for any power. I hope all our players go away from that grip in time. I guess it might work ok for a slapper, but other than that type player I see no advantage.

i wouldnt say deep. Last weekend she hit a homer and triple in one of the games vs mercer. She will be perfectly fine. It’s rough getting no reps before the gauntlet of SEC and expecting to produce.
She is hitting less than 285 now when she was well over 300 three weeks ago ....

She hasn’t had many ABs plus all of her ABS are against very quality sec opponents. A small slump is going to bring her average down due to the small sample size of at bats.

Started as a drill for bat control. Coach Lotief did it at Louisiana, Im sure that’s where Malveaux bought in to it. Not a fan

No not a fan of using it in a game at all. It doesn't feel natural more like your handicapped in your swing.
He didn’t do it the previous years at MO to my knowledge. He was more elevate through the ball there and last year. Its a drastic change in year two here.

I didn't pay attention to which players are using it and which ones aren't yesterday. I will look into that next game. For me it feels really awkward.

Whether it is a small slump or a deep slump makes no never mind because she has to come out of it and hit consistently the rest of the year for this team to win SEC Championship and go to World Series.
