Tennessee Softball 2023

I think Chris and Kate are going to be awesome Head Coaches but when he was at Missouri he was a top candidate because the 2 years he was there those teams overachieved because of their hitting. But the lack of Tennessee’s hitting the last 3 years has hurt in my opinion. He’s just not a top hire right now. But I got a gut feeling the team is going to have a good year hitting next year and he will be that top candidate again.

Poor hitting? Certainly we didn't hit tonight or in the OU game--but this team, IMO, was the best hitting team we've had in many years. I don't know what the team numbers were, but overall we had a pretty strong lineup.
Last years team was way better offensively and defensively. This years team just had a pitcher to complement Rodgers. If we had another pitcher last year we are playing for a championship

Last year's team averaged 5.92 runs per game; 26th in the country. This year's team averaged 6.97; 3rd by a fraction of a percentage point. So, no.

Can’t let the evening end without adding my appreciation and congratulation to the team for all you accomplished this year. It was truly impressive, and we are all proud of you.

Thank you so much to Ashley Rogers, who always gave her all, and was so successful doing it. We will all miss you. It was a privilege to watch you play, and a pleasure to enjoy your wins with you. Best of everything to you in the future, where I know you’ll continue to achieve great things. We will not forget you, you’re loved here.

That was a joke right? Tennessee had the toughest schedule in 2022 and were #1 - #3 in the RPI throughout last year and this years non conference was laughable. In 2022 Ashley DID pitch against Oklahoma and took them to 9 innings and we had them beat twice in that game and had UCLA on the ropes in back to back games. FYI the lack of quality pitchers they didn’t see this year, their averages and runs scored should’ve been much higher. Just saying….

Having Ayala and Davis this year would’ve helped a ton.

What do you think though Kregman? You watch a lot of softball. If Rogers pitched against OU the way she pitched against State last night, I think Lady Vols could have been in it late. I don't think Stanford is any better than the LV's and they pushed them twice.

Considering we got zero runs against OKlahoma, it makes no difference who pitched that game. We don't have any pitcher who could hold OK to zero runs.

What Positions do Sarvis, Pannell, Mosley, Keene, Mesusan, Kirkpatrick, and Ahlin play? And are any of them better hitters than these 2? I understand Pannell and Keene were injured, but isn't there a better hitter out of this group?

Pannell plays 3B/SS, Keene plays 3B/1B, Kirkpatrick is a catcher, Ahlin and Mesusan are OF, Sarvis is 1B and Mosley is middle IF. Rodriguez is actually C/3B despite playing 2B this year.

Don’t expect all those players to return next year. Our big classes always lose players after their first season together.

We didn’t hit for a great average this year but we were good at timely hits and also had a good OB% due to walks, HBP and reaching on errors.

Actually I think they all come back because they are just happy to be on the team. It won’t be until next year we will start to loss girls because no one really had to fight for playing time. Girls got playing time by default.

Depends on what happens with the portal. I do know all three freshmen we have coming in are very good and will challenge for playing time.

With the new portal rule that you only have until June 28 and not having the 3 new freshman yet. That’s why we are a year away before things might get interesting. Plus with minimal girls in the portal the last couple years it has made the culture look better than years past when we were losing so many before the portal was a thing.

So Pannell playing SS, Mosley at 2nd and Rodriguez C would that add a lot more hits and better fielding? And Obviously we would be removing Lair, Donihoo, and G from the field.

Ok unfortunately I just looked through the portal and there is a lot of quantity of players in the portal not much quality. So I have a feeling we are going to over reach on the portal girls we bring in. So our current roster is probably going to be our better players to pick through for next years starts.

Hence why I asked what positions the other player play.
