Tennessee Softball 2023

If they become hostile she has the right too. Fans upset about cheers, winning, bat slams, team emotions doesn’t give fan a right to be “hostile”. Fans pay to watch, eat food/buy merchandise and cheer…outside of that fans dont really need to be part of the experience.

Fans absolutely have the right to boo and voice displeasure with the opposing team.

I think it does. It has to do with the integrity of the game. There are sayings that are said about playing sports, such as: That’s why you play the game, quitters don’t win, winners don’t quit, you play to win the game.

Upsets happen often in sports, and it’s an upset because one team is considered by most, if not all, to be the far superior team. Everyone is so sure a team is going to win, but then another team beats them, sometimes they’re not even ranked. We all have seen upsets, they happen in every sport.

No Coach should ever approach a game thinking there’s no way we can beat the other team, they’re just too good, but Karen did, and then acted upon it by removing any possible way we could win the upset, by not playing either of our top two pitchers, which effected the team in all aspects of the game. We can guess what might have happened if we had played our best, but now we’ll never know.

If you guess, remember: football, TN beat AL, football, the Giants beat the Patriots, women’s basketball, Iowa beat SC, hockey, USA beat Russia, and also in hockey, the Florida Panthers have won 7 overtime games, so far, in the Stanley Cup playoffs, just to name a few upsets.

I don't think you're reading the coach's plan correctly. Firstly, none of the pitching angst really matters because we scored exactly 0 runs. Secondly, I think going with the high velo pitcher was actually our best chance to beat OK, even though it did not work out. Thirdly, it doesn't matter because we scored exactly 0 runs.

My personal issue with the situation was not her starting but what she did after the first inning.
As i said then and i will say one more time!! None of us know how Ashleys arm felt. No different situation as Loni at FSU did with Sandercock in the first game . No one was going to beat that team becasue they were the best. For my feeling is that KP should have stayed in and went a little longer if nothing but for her mental well being.

Completely valid points.

However, I think the staff’s handling of Pickens in this game was consistent with how they handled her down the stretch. I think they have been protecting her psyche for the future. And that continued in the OU game.

My biggest disappointment is that we didn’t give our best game to OU. After watching through last night, I am convinced that we were the best team to match up with them because we had hitting and pitching. Still a tall order, but we should not have been blown out like that.

The pitching decision had the biggest impact on all of that. Not a fireable offense IMO, but clearly worthy of discussion.

Reminds me of a few years ago when I was in the Air Force. A general was speaking to some of us young officers when someone ask what he thought the key to getting ahead was. He paused and then said, “ Recognition. Even negative recognition is better than no recognition as long as it isn’t to serious. In a couple years they will remember your name but not what it was for so they will assume it was for something good.”
I think this applies to our participation in the WCWS, most will remember our name being associated with the WS but they won’t remember how we laid an egg.

Out of 200+ teams, we finished 3rd in the country

Random thoughts while paragliding!

Congratulations to Oklahoma for winning their sixth NC in nine years. I believe this impressive run started with their victory against us in 2013. Please don't get me started.

Is Oklahoma Ruining College Softball? One Former Softball Legend Speaks Out

According to the article softball players transferring to Oklahoma are being paid between $40,000 and $50,000 per year in NIL.

Why does the remarkable Jordy Bahl always kick the chalk line in effect erasing the outer area of the pitching circle after her first and second pitches?

NIL and the portal are creating dynasties. The old PAC 12 model of using their incredible past histories (before title IX and softball outside of the PAC 12) to continue their dominance is under attack. Oklahoma is now "unapologetically" the school yard bully. Some of Oklahoma's Mon-star players are transfers from Arizona and Arizona State. Good for them!

I hope Coach Weekly understands ( I think she does) what we are up against.
When it comes to NIL and Tennessee Softball, I will close with the iconic phrase from the movie JAWS. We're going to need a bigger boat!

Tell that to baseball, football, basketball players etc. they take it all the time. Softball up to this point has been exempt. Mike White was talking about our crowd cheering in a class way. Wonder who he was talking about not having class? We are not far away from that in softball. If you are cheering your own team on fine but slamming bats at opponents feet., etc. Whining that everyone is against them. Well if you are not a complete front runner of course people will be against you your the best team. I know they are doing to motivate but you are sitting in front of 15000 of your own and Espn is pushing everything about you. You are not the one in the hostile environment. At this point you have all the advantages and all I hear about is how tough is and poor us. They live in such a bubble it is insane. Do it with some class.

While I agree it would be a tall task to beat OU, Clemson had them on the ropes in the Supers and should have won (although they would have had to beat them again) and Stanford had several chances to beat them and didn't (likewise would have had to do it again). They were beatable, just a tall order to do so.

Look at our baseball team USM fans posted (they took it down it was lame anyway) the names of players mothers girlfriends etc.. We have had players who barely could take the pressure of the game and sometimes didn't could you imagine if fans start researching their pasts and hurl that at them? Oklahoma is carrying the banner for softball they are setting the template going forward. I don't want to see that. We had Indiana fans leave their section and come sit with us because we were having a good time together, one a former player. That is one way softball is different and I want it to stay that way.

Who can offer the biggest financial bribes to prospects and transfers? My, what a cesspool college athletics has become.

In theory a fireable offense, for sure, but of course practically it won't happen. Biggest game of the year--biggest game in years, winner's bracket in the championship series--and you don't start either of your two best pitchers but instead throw out your struggling freshman who'd barely pitched in the tournament to that point and who'd barely pitched more than 2 innings in late-season games? Weekly basically conceded the game--all the more so given who should put in after Pickens. Who has EVER effectively conceded a winner's bracket game in the championship series? It blows my mind--and should blow the mind of every Vol fan. Press/media people should question her. And how the game might have played out if Rogers or Gottshall had pitched is not the point--that's responding to a defeatist, Milquetoast move with a defeatist rationalization.

You can see it on different softball news sites if you’re a subscriber. I don’t subscribe to any sites but just see the big names on twitter. Usually Justin McLeod with extra innings is the most up to date.

Look I always believed in sports that to the victor go the spoils. Taught my daughter that and Okahoma is the victor now. Just do it with some class.
The same here,I am a Tennessee fan 100% but going into the WS I was under no illusions that there was anybody else but Oklahoma was going to win the whole thing
