On the contrary, parents that were paying attention would respect the fact that she didn’t put a pitcher that wasn’t 100% with a history of overuse injuries out there on shorter rest than she had all season. Parents heard her postgame comments about not putting out someone that wasn’t 100%. If those comments chase someone off, then fine. But I’d rather play for a coach that won’t sacrifice a player’s health and future availability to try and win one game.
Show me the quote in which Weekly said Rogers wasn't 100 percent after pitching 4 innings in the first national title tourney game. I've not seen it.
Here is a KTown News Sentinel story specifically on Weekly's decision to pitch Pickens and not Rogers--or Gottshall! Weekly is quoted extensively and she doesn't say a word about Rogers not being healthy enough to pitch. Not...a...word. Beyond the insanity of not pitching Rogers, she of course could have pitched Gotshall--but didn't do that either. It might be the most absurd decision in the history of Tennessee coaching--all sports, all time. She basically gave up on the game--and the team--before the first pitch.
Why Ashley Rogers, Payton Gottshall didn't pitch for Tennessee softball
