Tennessee Softball 2023

If they bring in two and one is a #5 that gets 5-15 innings is it a mistake? Believe they are going quality or quantity.
I think Vawter would compliment our staff really well. A lot of down and off speed would be a good contrast to the other 2 and throwing 3 different pitchers with different speeds in a weekend would bode well for us.

After the season Tennessee had pitchers should be lining up and wanting to play for the Lady Vols.

But here’s the problem that is scaring the pitchers and pitcher parents away. It’s the way Karen handled the pitching staff at OKC. Being on the national stage everyone was watching. And pitching Pickens over Ashley did more damage than good. At the time and now for recruiting. Outside of Karen and Tennessee fans everyone knows Pickens and her limitations over the years. Pitchers outside of Tennessee are concerned that Karen will give Pickens the ball over them in the big games. And that’s a fact why there’s concerns coming to Tennessee as a pitcher.

On the contrary, parents that were paying attention would respect the fact that she didn’t put a pitcher that wasn’t 100% with a history of overuse injuries out there on shorter rest than she had all season. Parents heard her postgame comments about not putting out someone that wasn’t 100%. If those comments chase someone off, then fine. But I’d rather play for a coach that won’t sacrifice a player’s health and future availability to try and win one game.

Agree and as we saw with regionals and supers, Karen never gave Pickens the ball when the others had adequate rest. The only exception being to close out a game that was nearing a run rule.
Yep me too william. That clown who has been around spewing sh t for a whole six months always knows more than anyone else. I dont particularly care for Karen but that is irrelevant. She said from the git go she was going to get a pitcher who would fit in for us or no one at all. We will see about Keeney or not maybe today. I myself though that thowing KP was a curve ball that we needed. I did not know Ashley was ailing again. JMHO!

Not a mistake to bring in a No. 4 because Weekly will want to start her in the winner's bracket of the National Championship tourney.

Erickson is in the portal from OU. I don’t really know where she would play if she were to come here, but I think if we don’t get a pitcher from the portal then we’ll need a bunch of production with 4 pitchers returning & only 2 of those seeing significant time

Erickson’s production started to go down the middle of the season. She was batting relatively well and then only .118 during the post season.

Starting KP was not the problem, the book on OU if there is one was speed was the way to go against them. (Ashley was not availble and Payton was not right) Karlyn was doing ok til what ever scout Karen had in front of her told her to start throwing multiple changeups in a row til OU started sitting on them. The pitch calling was the fail. Plus you have to see if your pitcher has that pitch that day or whatever you have in "your" scout is worthless.

Plus the one bomb the girl hit. OU had adjusted by moving their hitters off the plate and we kept throwing inside. Basically we're giving them the equivalent of middle/middle on the inside corner.

Give me a break. Are you seriously complaining about that OU game? We had one freaking hit in the game and you're still complaining about who we started at pitcher? Should we have started Ashley and then started someone else vs. Oklahoma State and lost? Then we would've gone 1-2 instead of 2-2.

If any pitcher has any reservations about coming here, it should be over Karen's subpar pitch calling if it's anything.

And part of that is G’s inexperience as a catcher seeing where hitters are positioned before the pitch is thrown as well as everyone else on the field noticing if they are staying open and things like that. If there was one thing I’d like to see from KP is a good curveball bc her heat map is down and in to righties and if she can have a decent curve with some movement I think that’ll help her other pitches and expand the zone more

That is where having an experienced catcher would have picked up on it and adjusted or relayed to the dugout.

If she established a curve that would elevate her to another level. Her 3 zone on the right side of the plate takes most of the guess work out of it.

SJ Geurin didn’t pitch this year. I’d say if they get the opportunity to take one that’s on par or better than the two lefties they will.
Oklahoma offed the Stanford and Liberty pitchers. They’re wanting to take them both and with the portal ending tomorrow the current pitchers would be stuck sitting 4 and 5 again this year. If Deal would get in the portal Tennessee would be a real good possibility to land her. Closing the portal and letting coaches pickup players doesn’t seem fair for the players that get stuck behind a portal pickup and can’t leave after the fact.

Deal would go back to South Carolina where she was committed to before. Now that Smith isn’t in the hot seat it makes that earlier decision more ideal. I’m surprised SJ stayed around and not heading back to a Texas school.
