Tennessee softball didn't finish the season the way we hoped or envisioned. I'll admit, I had an uneasy feeling after seeing Alabama seeded 14th knowing we had just won two of three games in the series in Tuscaloosa. I was pulling for Clemson!
After a grueling 24 game schedule of conference foes, in which we demonstrated we were the best team, having to play Alabama again seemed like an unnecessary made for TV drama. When the smoke cleared our record against Alabama for the 2024 season stood at 3 and 3. Yes, the loss in the Super Regionial can be attributed to our inability to get a timely hit in the marathon game. When that happens, change may be a good thing. The Malveaux 's contract (which was for three years) terminated this year. They accomplished their objective and got a great head coaching job. Some fans feel like we underachieved, maybe we did. However in the 24 game SEC schedule no team (including Florida) had a batting average over 300.
Florida ba was 297. Tennessee finished second at 268. This is why having to play Alabama again to win the Super Regional was so disappointing.
When you look at all 56 games Tennessee played, we finished sixth in the league with a ba of 289. Only Florida (ba 330) and Texas A&M (ba 306) were above 300.
