Tennessee Softball 2024

I agree best two teams left standing.

Karlyn is what gives us a fighting chance for two more years. Have to add a pitcher and a couple of bats though. Even with her, it will be tough. But it will be tough for OU and Texas too.
I mean yes Texas and OU will continue to be great teams, but on the other hand their conference schedule gets 100x harder. @ith better teams every weekend rather than in the big 12 the only real competitive teams are OSU, OU, Texas, and sometimes Baylor. Would be interesting to see which players in the portal end up at OU/Texas. I am hoping we snag Meylan as she would be a good compliment to Pickens also I think considering Lassiter from Ole Miss would be a good player to insert into what would be a young outfield for us

Majors and DP nailed it.

How can so many folks look at SEC titles like they are nothing? It blows my mind.
It's significantly harder to win the SEC Regular Season than it is to make the WCWS. That's why this season is so frustrating and difficult to stomach. You did the much harder thing. You won every series all year, except the Super Regional to a team that you beat on their home field three weeks earlier. Tuscaloosa is easily the most difficult environment in the SEC and UT was a run away from being the first team to sweep them there in 20 years.

Now, I only saw one game in person all year at Kennesaw, but from watching on TV it felt like they took a deep breath after winning the regular season and never got it back. Last year, they won the SEC on Saturday, flopped in the season finale, then didn't lose again until OKC. I'm not going to make an excuse, but I'd like to see what would have happened without the five hour rain delay at the SEC Tournament. Or maybe they just assumed it would all just happen for them like it did last year. Either way, I expect that it's a lesson that will serve them well next year.

Definitely a disappointment at the end.

But, I don’t see at as a letdown. The hitting issues showed up a few times during the regular season, but the team always seemed to bounce back.

For whatever reason, they tightened up and couldn’t bounce back at the end.

SEC Title is still a worthwhile achievement. Just not all the way where we hoped it would go.

On to Omaha (hopefully) with the men and next year for the Women.

Auburn Coaching Rumors Mill:
Kenny decided to stay at OSU. Contract was done but his ex wouldn’t be flexible on visitation with their kids so he called Auburn AD & withdrew. Auburn interviewed JT D’Amico but he wanted to be paid as much as Heather Tarr, his ex. Malveaux is still in the running. Seems like ex-wives are Auburn downfall. Malveaux is still married might help with Auburn at this point late in the game.

Big Portal News from OKC at the WCWS
Canady has been offered a NLI deal of $250,000 to join Oklahoma next season. Which sounds unrealistic but Vawter’s from South Carolina got $125,000 and a condo to go to SC this year.

I’ve heard no rumors of that. Where you hearing it?

Taking the Auburn job could be enough to turn a current to an ex IMO.

The same OU money backer that knew Jordy Balh was leaving for Nebraska a week before it was announced. Give it a week and see if it’s announced she’s in the portal.

For Vawter’s deal it was raised by the basketball coach Dawn Staley from a big basketball backer. She’s raising money again this year for portal players to help keep Bev around.

Obviously if she wants to win a championship, she won't stay at Stanford. WTBS, I would think going to Stanford would entail that she takes education quite seriously. She would be closer to home at OU, but then there's the question of atmosphere. Not everyone is cut out for OU. Just like with every other program, not everyone fits in there. But OU softball has a pretty specific vibe.

Whoever paid $125k for Vawter must have a ton of money to burn because that was a horrible investment.

Crazy thing about Canady is she only had 2 offers one from Stanford and the other was Wichita State. She was a late bloomer and not enough exposure from being from Kansas.

If the 250k is true then I’d fully expect Canady to take that. That’s a lot of money for a softball player

That’s not accurate. She played for the Louisville Sluggers National (solid travel) team and had more offers than that, her first D1 offer came in the 7th grade. MaxPrep AA her Junior year and ranked in the Top 15 for the 2022 class that was deep in pitching.

That’s not really accurate on either account. Kenny wouldn’t leave Oklahoma State unless Auburn committed to building a new stadium, which is the same thing that caused Heather Tarr to drop out three weeks ago. I know for a fact Kenny never came anywhere close to final contract discussions with Auburn.

JT may have had discussions with Auburn, but he isn’t anywhere near the top of their list and no school is going to pay a current assistant what one of the most accomplished coaches in the country makes. That’s complete nonsense. Whoever told you that has zero concept of coaching salaries in college softball.
