Tennessee Softball 2025

We Probably should've tried to get one good team in this tourney. UT Martin is the best of the three and they are not that good.
I’ll grant you that these teams aren’t very good. But this tournament was set up months ago, when it would have been difficult to know that. From their standpoints, there are positive things. Presumably, they get paid to come here. They get a chance to see how they compare to a team like UT. And the other teams are similar, so those games are competitive. One big danger is that LV fans will look at our stats, and think we are giant killers. Maybe, maybe not. We sure do look impressive this weekend.

Based on what we have seen so far this year, imo the starting lineup for conference play should be the following (not batting order):

C - Sophia Nugent
1B - McKenna Gibson
2B - Destiny Rodriguez
3B - Taylor Pannell
SS - Laura Mealer
OF - Saviya Morgan
OF - Kinsey Fielder
OF - Katie Taylor or one of the Leach's
DP - Ella Dodge

Totally right maybe we could change a couple players depending on whether the pitcher is righthanded or lefthanded. I do hope they leave the top of the lineup like it is now.

Morgan and Fielder have over .500 obp percentage.

No one but Pannell needs to ever be in that three position.
Boo fourth is a no brainer
I like Nugent in the fifth spot just my preference.
I then like Dodge vs righties and Doyle against lefties
Mealer
Rodriguez
Taylor vs lefties and Leach sister vs righties.

There is a reason Pannell has almost 40 rbi's already Morgan and Fielder are getting on base giving Boo and Pannell all the opportunity they need to drive them in.

I’m still waiting to see if Zoie Shulers bat has cooled off since fall ball. Bella is hitting better. Ryan Brown has had flashes. The trio of TayPan, Boo and Laura is tough enough without adding speed merchants and Ella or Amayah to the lineup.

What I’ve noticed is that we hit the ball hard on a line more so than lifting it out of the park now. A lot of our hits are finding gaps and getting deep in the outfield.

Shuler and Brown will have limited bats moving forward. Shuler will get her time as a base runner and Brown will get an AB from time to time.

It'll be interesting to see how Karen handles the pitching staff this weekend. Obviously a really good Georgia team and you want to defend your back to back regular season title, but I think more importantly is getting the younger pitchers some experience. I don't think that they should start, if anyone it would probably be Nuwer, but I think giving them innings when we have a comfortable lead in a very hostile, loud road environment.

Believe SEC will be 60% Pickens, 30% Sage,10% the other 3. Friday- Pickens, Saturday- Sage, Sunday- Pickens

Karen wants to win and that window is closing on doing it with Pickens. Offense has to show up for Nuwer and Tanner.

I kinda figured that was the case and in my head there is not doubt that Pickens can do that, but I think my biggest concern is what is her workload going to look like at the end of April going to may.

She’ll take on more I fear. There will be a game where Sage struggles and one of the 3 come in and does well. But more times than not, Pickens will be the first one out of the bullpen. Hopefully it’s not 3+ innings to get the win.

Last season
188 Pickens
147 Payton
26 Charli
10 White

Reactions: Majors
First time in many seasons that we have more players that deserve playing time than we have positions for them to play.
We got a chance to see practically everyone during this invitational but it’s got to be tough not going with the starters with SEC season starting next weekend. Reps are important
