1. Tennessee Tech came out firing on all angles. Partly because of just making good shots and partly because of defense. We don't come out the gate right away wanting to lock down teams. Don't fix that and the WSU game will be very tough.

2. Once again a game with single digit turnovers (5) to their 14. Our two PG's had a combined 1 turnover (DThomp). We take care of the ball extremely well and force teams into turnovers and convert to points. 13 points off of 14 turnovers.

3. Was against the 4 out 1 offense in the beginning because I thought it would take away from Maymon, but the more the offense is out there the more I like it. I think we will use it more against Wichita State.

4. Speaking of Maymon he's starting to make shots that he couldn't make early in the year and he's also very valuable in the passing game from the high post ( 3 assist) This needs to be used more until they can stop it.

5. The defense turned up in the second half. Coming out up 41-40. Tenn Tech only scored 23 points in the second half. They were stuck on 48 points until the 9 min mark if iirc. When we WANT to play defense we can really shut teams down.

6. Let JRich continue to shoot 3's he's really improved his game and is only going to benefit us more when teams scout for it and he uses his first step to drive and shoot his midrange jumpshot/runner.

7. Bernard King Player of the Game: Jarnell Stokes again. 19 points 13 rebounds. 6 OFF of rebounds. Shooting 8-14 (57%) from the field 3-4 (75%) He continues to show that he should touch the ball every possession. 4th straight double-double. 5th of the season and 23 out of 58 games have been double doubles. Keep working young man.

8. 18 offensive rebounds of our 43 total. That tells me that we crash the boards hard and we have players that want second opportunities to score at the basket.

9. Our freshman continue to show that they have improved on defense and will be something we can depend on late in the game. Hopefully Hubbs continues to be aggressive his shots will start to fall. Darius does what he needs to do as a PG doesn't get flustered. We will see how he handles the loud crowd at WSU. Davis is going to be good. I seen him pick up the little PG for Tenn Tech and guard him one on one with no help defense at all. Weight is all he needs,

10. We have a week off to prepare for the Shockers. Coming out slow against this team will put us in a serious hole in that game. I expect a tough hard fought game. Keep it close in the second half and then bury them with Mcrae and Stokes.

Go Vols let's take it those Shockers!

Lol good write up. I was hesitant to believe the preseason, "Josh has developed a 3 pt shot" but he really is shooting the ball well.

Thanks. But yeah me too but you can tell he looks to shoot now. I think he has to stay in rhythm and continue to want to score.

His release looks way better on his 3 than last year. I love J rich one of my favorite vols in the past 5 years

Good write up SJ.

If anyone has a replay they know of let me know, thanks. Got to watch the last 2 minutes which allowed me to see AJs dunk, that was a very impressive move, can see the potential.

As I said didn't get to see, but your point on Maymon is something I noticed the last 2 games in Atlantis, glad to hear it's continued. He's making those tough shots around the rim that he used to be so good at, let's hope that continues.

Right now Stokes is playing quite possibly as well as any big man in the county, Randle is obviously up there as well, but IMO Jarnell deserves more praise than he's getting. Just keep it up big man and the accolades will come. He had 0 fouls today, never thought I would see that.

Espn3 will have it on replay. Idk how soon though.

Yeah Maymon doesn't have the get up just yet but he puts his body into the man and gets his shots up. I like that. He should continue to kill at the high low position.

Stokes continues to be a space eater. I think that's why people say the 4 out 1 in works better. I'm starting to see it myself.

Good write up SJA. I was about to write one then I saw yours. We're seeing old Maymon again, I really like that.

Also, Aj Davis's dunk was awesome!

I get people wanting the 4-1, we play it already, but I don't think we should play it more than 2 post sets. Unless the root of our defensive issues are Maymon, then I just don't see much of a benefit in it.

Moore's style is perfect for 10-15 minutes, a quick spurt each half. After that it's too easy to scheme against him and really make it like we're playing with 4 guys on offense, much like teams used to do with josh. Not only that but Maymon is coming around, he's rounding into form, and I doubt Moore is capable of putting up 15&10 on a nightly basis. As you mentioned as well Maymon's passing is a huge asset to this team, Barton's playmaking has been a disappointment so we need those assists from somewhere.

According to Will Shakespeare, past is proloque, so it's hard not to anticipate a big half-time lead for Wichita State. How the Vols respond (or don't respond) in the second half will determine the victor.

Nice write up. After the UTEP game when Stokes said he was going to score more I was skeptical, but he is proving that game in and game out. If him and Maymon continue to play like that, the Kentucky matchup will be so much fun to watch. The lack of turnovers and foul discipline is what I'm impressed the most about. You do that every game and you'll have a shot against anyone, something about the team with the fewest mistakes will win. GBO.

Care to explain?
