Tennessee Transfer Portal Targets

Maybe I’ll be proven a fool, but you have to think Knecht shutting his recruitment down after our visit is a good sign on that front.

I feel the opposite about Ledlum. I feel you only go all the way to Boston as a last ditch Hail Mary to get him in the boat.
A last minute visit to ledlum feels like we were given bad news and the coaches are making a final push to change his mind. Knecht felt UNC was too far east but Knoxville isn't? And our main competition is Oregon? That doesn't feel good either. Why does my gut tell me we miss on both? Rhetorical.

I think Dillione will start and Z comes off the bench. I'd guess the staff is very comfortable with Freddie at the 1 given their portal (in)action at that spot, both Barnes and Z seem to like Z coming off the bench, and he may miss the start of the season anyway so they might not want to disrupt the starting lineup.
I'm fine with all that. I'm just thinking of our most ideal lineup, not necessarily the starting lineup.

He adds a shot-making ability. How many times have we complained over a lack of effective shooters? Gainey, even at his reduced percentage, would have comfortably been our 2nd beat 3-pt shooter, last year. I also don't see a complete absence of ability to score from inside the arc, either. He made 170 2-pt baskets in two years. Not all of those were long 2s. In his limited highlights, he shows an ability to score within 5 feet. And I think we can manufacture looks for him from deep by having guys like Dilione that can break their man down and get to the paint. I'm just not as grim on Gainey as you are. I don't expect stardom, but I feel like he offers something we lacked last year.
I hope you're right. If he's 35%+ here and plays good defense, then mission accomplished.

I'm reluctant to use Torvik's numbers since his 3-Pt #'s for Gainey were wrong, but if he's accurate on his 2-Pt %'s, then 76% of Gainey's shots inside the arc were "Far 2's". Only JJJ and Key came anywhere close to that rate. If he couldn't get to the rim in the Big South, then he's either got to develop that skill against much stronger competition or he's going to strictly be a spot-up shooter. I think to take pressure off of Vescovi, we need more multi-level threats. Like you mentioned, Dilione is hopefully one of those guys.

Last post from me on this I promise. I just think there's a reason why most assumed that if we brought this kid in, it would be as a walk-on and not taking up a scholarship (including you, I believe).

That was an optimistic outlook because of who his father is, he was being pursued by other HM’s where he would’ve been a scholarship player as well.

Just how many bowls have you smoked??

Like I said in a previous post, I agree with everything you’ve said. I also just posted we need to land one of those other guys for it to be a success. If this kid can ride the bench for a year or two while getting better, then average around 10-11 as a sixth man his senior year, that’s a win.

Look, Im trying to talk myself into it because right now all I’ve seen is Indiana chatter for Ledlum and Oregon chatter for Knecht

If we miss on Knecht and/or Ledlum, go get David Jones from St. John

6’6, 210
13.2 ppg
6.8 rpg
1.6 apg
39% FG
77% FT

Against Marquette:
- 16 points, 11 rebounds, 2 ast, 2 steals

Against UCONN:
- 15 points, 6 rebounds, 3 ast

Against Marquette:
- 17 points, 5 rebounds, 1 ast, 2 steal

Against Creighton:
- 14 points, 3 rebounds, 1 ast, 1 block, 1 steal

Against Providence:
- 16 points, 7 rebounds, 1 block, 1 steal

Against Xavier:
- 19 points, 10 rebounds, 2 ast, 1 block, 1 steal

Literally JJJ, if not better

Even if we land Ledlum and/or Knecht, I'll question just how successful Barnes has been in the portal because I'm still of the opinion that PG is a big need. If I'm wrong, and next season shows me to be wrong, I'll gladly eat crow. I want this team to win. I want them to make it farther in the tournament. If those things are happening, I'll gladly take heat for being wrong.

Bro you know damn well I’ve been the worst in here complaining about a PG, I agree with you

I don’t think any of you want a point guard. I don’t think I want a point guard. What even is a point guard?
I wanted a PG last year. The desire has never left. I love ZZ, but he needs help. Especially coming off this injury. But, obviously, I'm the only one who really wants a PG.
