Additionally, I'd argue Ledlum has faced better competition than Anosike, as well, and has favored well against high majors (Kansas and UMASS) and Princeton twice (tourney team). As I’ve posted I get the hesitancy of Ledlum, and I would be lying if I said I didn’t have some of those same doubts/questions as well, reality is we won’t know until it happens. I will say this…Anosike was the COVID year, preseason workouts and practices were severely limited and I wonder how that effected him adapting to this level of play. Ledlum is also 20lbs lighter than Anosike (at least) and so he should have a bit more quickness/mobility than Anosike did. I like the schools the are targeting Ledlum and pursuing him, it’s more impressive than those that did Anosike, so that’s another positive I look at is “are all these coaches wrong”? But again, won’t know until it happens.
Crazy to have such an athletic roster and not use it on both ends of the floor. Why limit the advantage to defense only?
FAU did the opposite of that, not extending to the perimeter except for Véscovi. They gave Plavsic one on one inside but crowded Nkamhoua, which was one reason he never got going. Everybody else they basically dared to shoot.I actually don't think we were athletic enough which is why teams could crowd us on the perimeter and force us into long scoring droughts. Once ZZ went down...we were in real trouble.
BTO talk me out of Ledlum being another Anosike... Anosike before he came to us averaged a double double and then came here and averaged like 2 & 2. Then leaves and goes to a decent Cal State team that made the tourney and averaged 16 & 8. These mid major guys just don't excite me as much.
I'm all in on the Caleb Mills train. He's that slasher, drive in the lane and go get a basket type of players we have been needing. I haven't kept up much with all of the potential portal players but he's one that I've had my eye on.

Zeigler for that matter was often left alone on the perimeter, since he was only shooting 31%. Smart defenses gave us a lot of open looks on the outside, and it only occasionally burned them (Duke).
It was good finally seeing them in person and confirming my suspicion that we got a lot of open looks that we just didn’t take, because we had no confidence in our outside shot. Some of the other games you’d see some wild offensive possessions where players would end up extremely unbalanced (like 3 Michigan State players all cutting to the same wing) and they would bail themselves out with a low quality shot in isolation. We tended to have everybody in pretty good places, but passed up a lot of good looks early in the shot clock. And every game Key would give Véscovi a “hot potato” near the end of the shot clock at least once. The D scout on us was the same for anyone who handled us. Run Santi ragged, don’t give anyone else respect outside, pack it in, and don’t double anyone because they don’t deserve it. When someone failed at handling us, we made them off balance by driving in a tiny gap (only ZZ effective) getting another shooter hot (rare) or getting hot inside (rarer). I’m hopeful long term that Carr shooting, Estrella shooting, Dillione driving is how we get out of the woods, but we won’t be doing all three next January. We have to have a big time slasher, shooter or post scorer if Santi is going to stay. That’s the pitch to him PS. Make good NIL money, and we’ll free you to be the shooting machine you are to get you better options next year. Mills is the most obvious fit, but I wouldn’t right off Knecht (obviously a different puzzle piece). There are lots of other fits. I just don’t want to blow a token on anyone unless they help balance our scoring.

Key’s reluctance was one of the biggest mysteries. He’s a shooter. He had good looks and didn’t take them. Don’t know whether that is coaching or confidence, but it definitely hurt.
I wonder if it had anything to do with Barnes focus on defense? I do wonder if that's why our offense is usually so lackluster. We need an assistant that's good with offense.Key’s reluctance was one of the biggest mysteries. He’s a shooter. He had good looks and didn’t take them. Former North Texas guard Tylor Perry officially visiting Gators
Really well spoken kid, makes it clear he wants to join a winning culture and not trying to walk in and take over a team, just wants to be a piece of the puzzle and go dancing for the first time in his collegiate career. Ultimately Florida can sell a vision of dancing, but Tennessee has a much better track record of recent success than the Gators.
If he wants to join a winning culture, Florida certainly ain’t it right now.
That is just not true ... remember Barnes yanking people for not shooting when they were/are open!I'm beginning to wonder if he [Barnes, snac] cares about offense at all as long as his kids play defense like their hair is on fire. I'm fairly certain he's defense first, last, always.
That gives us a chance ... particularly if SV makes the decision to return.First, he said he plans to evaluate the “winning culture” of programs, something that includes how interested a fansbase is as well as the buy-in from players who are already on the roster.
“I don’t want anybody to think that I’m coming in to be the man or be this, this and that,” he said. “I just want to come in and help win. At the end of the day, I haven’t been to the Big Dance and that’s my only goal as well as trying to develop as much as I can over the next year with my IQ, game and body. I just want to contribute. I don’t want people to think I’m coming to take over anybody’s program. I want to help winning and be a part of something special.”
