Tennessee Vols Basketball Recruiting

Another portal big I'd be happy to take...since he may be willing to be here longer than just one season. Johni Broome, 6'10" 235lbs from Morehead State in the OVC.

You and every other team in the country lol

For sure. His team being good for 20+ wins in both years he's been there and him being a double double machine with NBA size already will make him a big time target.

I feel like we could be a great landing spot for a guy like that though. Work into the lineup this first year when he isn't expected to just "be the guy" but then next year in his 4th year he could emerge as a 30 mpg guy for us if Uros/ON both leave. Play the 5 or 4 (if Aidoo is playing the 5) and have plenty of minutes to be productive.

I'm sure Kentucky will make a big push for him though. Being in their backyard.

I don’t think he’s going somewhere to get worked into the lineup

Also, what do we think about Jarred Hall out of Lebanon, TN? Dude is 6’8” and plays like a guard. Hopefully we got the jump on some of these other teams in recruiting him.

Also, anybody who has a Twitter show Key some love. Not in a weird way asking him to come, but saying to enjoy your visit and stuff. The Texas Tech fans have been all up in his mentions lol. They really really want him.

If his decision is swayed by the amount of twitter love he gets then he's not a fit here.

50/50, I think that’s the hope of the staff but with a guy who wasn’t heavily recruited first time around he may be wanting to enjoy some visits.
True, he wanted to be Vol the first time around, but exactly what you said. Clay county not necessarily known to spit out high level D1 guys. 🤷🏻‍♂️

so hypothetically if we land our targets:

Not really sure what to expect from Key. At ISU he could play 1-3 but that's also a much different lineup. Also, under Barnes seems like level of defense is a big factor in playing time. Not really sure what to expect from him there. Also, returning from an injury I suppose could limit time, at least at first.

Collins seems like a pure PG, but maybe they try to run him at 2 a little bit? Otherwise Zeigler probably looking at a step back in minutes? Will be an interesting balancing act with the talent/skill on this lineup.

Devin Askew transferring from Texas. I wonder if things fall through with Collins or Key if we kick the tires here. He’s already hit the portal once though, so he might have to sit out a year.

Some actual talent? Cmon man, people were complaining about not landing transfers or recruits, Yuri is pretty widely regarded as a Top 10 portal guy and that’s your take?
I’m excited about Yuri. Granted, I don’t know much if any about him other than seeing stats and reading here. Love the assists and boards though! Seems like Barnes guy for sure.

Yea, that’s along the lines of what I was saying if you are to land Collins/Key/Phillips I’m not sure how much of a need for a post there really is. Your best players are mostly guards and wings so need to commit to small ball for a good portion of the time and and you’ve got enough posts with Nkahmoua back for that to be serviceable. Again if it’s a can’t miss guy you obviously wouldn’t say no, but like you said there aren’t many of those types out there.
Would be a blessing in disguise more than likely. Might force Barnes hand on continuing to try two bigs when it’s not working. Plus, the guards all seem to rebound the ball well. He cares a ton about that.
