Tamba

Additions:

Add Tyrese Hunter and TN would be a clear winner in the portal/recruiting. They probably already are.

I don't get why SOME people on here are so ungrateful and selfish towards Barnes. Dont get me wrong I've had my fair share of criticism towards him especially when it comes to his offense. But I have never called for him to be fired or said he was a terrible coach. Cause honestly he's a great coach. We went from SEC chumps to SEC Champs since he has arrived at Tennessee. He's landed blue chip talent consistently the last 4 seasons. Developed 3 1st round picks and about to have a 4th very soon. And honestly, you couldn't ask for a better culture from a caoch. Even if this man keeps flopping in March Madness till the day he retires I'll still be grateful and thankful for what he did for Tennessee basketball. If anything he's our big picture coach. Whoever does replace Barnes when that time comes he is going to be taking over a very healthy program and will be set up for immediate success. And that's all thanks to Ole Rick.......all you Barnes haters need to think about that. Go Vawls!!!

Saw somewhere today that BJ Edwards is on campus now. Leads me think that the staff knows Hunter is not coming and the coaching staff want to get BJE working on his game as he likely will need to play some minutes next season.

The rising freshmen basketball players began arriving on campus a few days ago. Those who graduate high school later this month will report to campus soon after.

The waiting game sucks. I hope Hunter makes his decision soon. If he picks us, awesome. If he doesn't, then we need to continue looking for a quality portal PG. It's the only piece we're missing.

Thing is there won’t be a quality portal PG remaining, so if we miss out on Hunter we’ll need to get by with Zakai and BJ. Which isn’t the worst place to be but also isn’t ideal. BJ needs to hit the ground running

There's still talk of Ramey. Not sure how good he could be away from Texas, surrounded by our talent. And there's always the potential for a grad transfer. As far as I'm aware, the portal deadline does not extend to grad transfers. I assume they can still transfer and be immediately eligible.

But yes, Hunter is who I would really like to get.

Ramey is not a needle mover for me at all, though I hadn’t considered that grad transfers could still become available

I'm curious what Barnes could do with Ramey. Again, I prefer Hunter, but if Barnes has interest in Ramey, I assume he sees something.

I've seen mention that there may be some who may pull out of the draft and drop into the portal as well. If it's not Hunter, I'm not seeing a real difference maker at PG out there. If Hunter goes elsewhere, I'm fine waiting to see if any of the NBA eligible guys pull out. Just don't see any other PGs out there that really excite me outside of Hunter. Really wish we'd held firm and gotten Collins. He would have been a huge get for us.

Ramey would likely be the day 1 starter and would be by several magnitudes the most proven and steady pg on the team. The year before he got into the Beard offense he averaged 12/4as/3reb and shot 41% from 3 and 83.5 percent from the FT line, his numbers were going up each year. He has a low turnover rate as well. Plus he's a proven veteran vs the best of the best competition. He near single-handedly beat us this year in Austin with his 18 points on a day when Texas only scored 51. We should have legitimate final four hopes if we landed him.

We signed BJE (always were going to), and no one will ever convince me we'd have told Wallace, Mitchell, or Miller there was no room at the inn. So I absolutely believe we'd have signed 3-4. We knew, on some level, that we were losing Chandler, and that certain guys were expendable (Bailey, maybe Plavsic).

And whether that number was 3 or 4, we landed 0. That didn't set well with many people, and justifiably so. Anyone claiming they should be fired for not landing any of those top targets is being dramatic and ridiculous. Anyone who voiced a reasonable level of concern was being cautious and aware.

One Time has quickly changed EVERYTHING about recruiting, maybe moreso in BB than any other sport. It is entirely possible that EvERY top tier player we missed on early in the process will be available to show up next year. So doing the dance, even when you know you are down the dance card, is important and when these guys reevaluate their options EVERY year. Same for guys on our roster, so assessing classes and their impact has changed for the duration of One Time. Getting them the second time around may be even better than the year in whch you establish your program in their eyes. You are no longer wasting your time recruiting uphill as their situation and your opportunities can change so radically in a year or two.

Celebrating victories and bemoaning losses as they come out of HS is for sure fool's gold. Roster mangement comparisons each fall now will be the most valid assessment of success or failure as you can also factor in development or lack of from your holdovers. Coaches evaluation and teaching skills added to their relationship development abilities with the new world transient player pool will be the measurements for retention decisions.

Phillips, Edwards, Jefferson, Awaka is a dang fine high school class
Now number 21 on 247 recruiting rankings, and if Awaka is ranked accordingly after his assumed reclassification then we will be firmly a solid top 20 class. Can’t be too 5-10 every year, so in the off years top 20 is very good.

Agreed and I thought last year was a dang fine hs class but we’ve only got 2 of them coming back for a second season. I’m tempering my hs recruiting excitement till I see who makes more than a one year commitment (besides Phillips as he’s clearly intending to be a 1&done).
