Tennessee vs. Kentucky in the Sweet Sixteen. Are you nervous?

100% until he runs into Igor or Phillips setting a screen. We run so many screens and him trying to keep up with ZZ will be difficult with that thought running through his mind. He is a menace on ball defender though, so ZZ really has to take care of the ball!
havent heard who the refs are, but if its Shows or Adams both will be in foul trouble setting those screens

I am nervous because if we lose, then it means Ziegler and Mashack end their long careers at UT with a loss to UK on a huge stage. Potentially Barnes too, though it seems like its trending he returns next year.

I am excited because if we win, we get to end the season of a team that smacked us around twice.

I get too worked up on UT sports, but this one will be special if we can pull it out.

I doubt it.

Maybe if Pearl was coaching this team, then yes.

Can’t see Barnes putting up with physical violence.

I don’t mean a literal fist fight, but something more like Awaka going insane mode and having to be pulled away from Aaron Bradshaw after a hard foul. I could see Okpara and Williams getting into it tomorrow night.

Kinda sad that we can't enjoy this pic as much as we once did

I don’t think it’s a great mystery, it’s not this simple, but overall…we struggle with over helping, it’s why we are a great defense, but it’s also why when we lose it’s typically to a team shooting well from 3. In our wins we hold teams to about 26% from 3, in our losses that number is about 36% from deep, 16-6 when opponents shoot 26%+, 13-1 when it’s <26%. What does Kentucky do better than anyone else in the league since January 1? Shoot the 3, right at 40% as a team since conference play started, so they excel in what is our “deficiency”.

A huge part, and it’s hard to break habits, but we have to lock up 1-1 and not help, if you get beat to the rim and give up a tough 2 whatever, but stop helping which plays entirely into their hand and allows them to get into that rhythm, which is a shooters best friend

Do you think we will allow Williams to bring the ball up court to start their offense or will we prefer to have Butler bring it up court? Seems like defending Williams as their offensive initiator at the high post really gave us fits?

Butler may be limited when relying on his left shoulder, but he’s right-handed and still a very dangerous player with the ball - 14 pts, 5 assists, and 4-5 from the floor in 33 minutes vs Illinois. It’s not like he’s hopping around on one leg.
Seems like he got 2-3 steals from us last game also?

What happens to you if they don’t pull it out? Do we need to plan an intervention?

Came on to say exactly this, and said it when we played them in Knoxville - take away the damn 3 at all cost! If we shoot anything close to average and can make Kentucky play half court and settle for 2's, we win 100 out of 100 times, and Pope knows it.

Big killer runs only happen with 3's and a lot of transition baskets. Take away transition by shooting a decent % and focusing on getting back, and as you said, just play them straight up, no doubles, no drop coverage, (which we generally don't do anyway), and no kick-out 3's. I'll give up late shot clock 2's all night, because we will win every time forcing Kentucky out of their comfort zone.

The key to beating Kentucky is if they’re hot from the 3 line don’t panic and start forcing 3s of our own. Stick to the game plan, get inside the paint and just score on every possession if you can. The two games this season Kentucky shot 24-48 from beyond the arc and we shot 16-63 or something like that. We lost because we tried to beat them at their own game instead of our game.

Also to add if we start to get a lead….whatever we have been doing lately….don’t.

We start to get sloppy and start taking silly shots. For whatever reason several times this year after getting a lead it’s like a switch is flipped and we go into “let’s get stupid” mode. That cannot happen anymore. I don’t care if we get up 25.

alot of talk that it was photoshopped and Im sure some idiots with phones would have snapped a picture if it really happened
Seen in another thread of the pic it was likely photoshopped from. It could be real, too.
At this point doesn't really matter. We have to play no matter what. It's sweet 16, everybody wants to win. I don't think either needs more motivation at this point.
