Tennessee vs. Oklahoma State Game Thread - 10:30 AM EST - ESPNU

Can we finally dispell the excuses from last year's bad losses being attributed to "getting the players to buy-in"? It's pretty obvious there is a systematic problem.

Systematic problem after a game in Nov? Are you trying to top your idiocy from last year after Austin Peay?

My God. Some people should just not post.

Is a loss to okie state a bad loss? I'm thinking they're gonna be dancing this year, usually a neutral site loss to a NCAA team isn't considered a bad loss.

NC Asheville is losing by more than 20 to Akron, we have got to play better or we will have more than a few early season losses.

Yes it was ugly. Thank good ness it's over. That sucks, but it is early in the season. Preseason games are where you fine-tune, or work out some kinks. Losses suck no matter when they happen, but they hurt a lot more in Feb-Mar than before Thanksgiving.

No, the sky is not falling. It just looks a bit troublesome.

I agree, but NCAA doesn't look at close wins...

We won and that's all that matters.

However I do agree play needs to improve or some of those early games we counted as W's will become L's.

A win tomorrow and we are where many thought we'd be...3-1 heading home from Puerto Rico.

If they win tomm...they will be playing better and hopefully starting to come out of this funk.

This might be the worst game I've seen under Martin. If not the worse then at least top 3.

No offensive flow, terrible rebounding, zero emotion and horrible shot selection. Played decent defense in the 1st half but if your shots aren't falling then eventually the game is going to get away from you.

Just a piss poor effort all the way around. I'd be embarrassed if I was Martin. I can excuse lack of talent but this was one of the worst efforts I've seen in awhile.

AH BUT-----"Martin is so much better than Pearl"

UT was leading UNCA by 17 at one point and then let off the gas.

"Let off the gas?!" I think you mean fell apart a bit and couldn't close the game out. Since you seem to have all the answers calling everyone out, how do you explain the lack of execution in shooting the ball, lack of confidence from the entire team today, and 0 focus? There was no fight in this team today and they didn't even seem to try and make a run to get back into it, more like kind of watching the clock to see when it was over. We have no pure shooters on this team, no one that can just step into a jump shot and drain it, we seem to force everything and play out of control, causing a ton of turnovers, which we saw today. CM is supposed to have these physical/intense practices, they have already supposedly gelled this summer in Europe, yet none of that seems to have converted over to the court. I will hang up and listen now for the answers to all of this....

I typically don't respond to your posts because you are very confrontational, but for this I'll make an exception.

The point of the post was looking at the body of work last year and seeing the correlations to this season. It was not a 3-game assessment.

Trod and plod. Tried to warn you guys. It's going to be a long year. CCM did NOTHING prior to coming here. Made the dance? Uh no. Won his conference? Uh no.

UT hired below its potential because of the Pearl mess. And now be prepared for 3 years of very mediocre bball.

Not because of the Pearl mess. The admin at TN always goes cheap on bb coaches and frankly has also done so on fb coaches most of the time. Getting Pearl was a fluke no one knew how good he was and he would have had a major program years ago if he had not been black balled for squealing on a cheater years ago. You need to get used to having a mediocre program that is all we have had in the 40 years I have watched this program.

Fell apart? Uh, no. I'd call it a lack of concentration i.e. letting off the gas because the focus wasn't there.

I only call out buffoons that make outlandish and ignorant claims. There are plenty of those in this forum. You explained to yourself what went wrong today. However, a team that went to Europe in Nov and has played but 2 exhibitions and 2 games since then isn't all of a sudden going to gel. I sure as hell hope they don't gel in Nov.

Chalk this one up to just an all around bad day from everyone on the bench. If they're still playing like this in late Jan-early Feb with Maymon back on the team then I'll be worried. For now, I'm not going to freak out like a lot of people over one game in mid Nov on a neutral court, but I will call a spade a spade and say today's game was bad all the way around.

No, if someone is going to make outlandish claims and fabricate things then expect to be called out on it.

There is no way you can look at the body of work of last season and see the correlation to this season three games in. Each season stands on its own. Maybe you forgot that UT was missing its most experienced and reliable player today who was on the bench.

Again, if they're playing like that in late Jan-early Feb with Maymon on the floor then there will be cause for concern. This team is still in need of a consistent outside shooter and a player who can create his own shot off the dribble. McRae is the closest thing to that, but he has been wildly inconsistent his two years at UT. This roster is what it is. I think if Maymon can come back and get his legs under him then UT will be a tough out for anyone. Today Ok St was more physical for whatever reasons and was quicker to the ball than UT and that did not happen much last year.
