Tennessee vs. Oklahoma State Game Thread - 10:30 AM EST - ESPNU

No. If you can't shoot 3's, you stop shooting them. That's coaching.

What is he supposed to do? Walk out on the court and take the ball from the wings before they shoot it. Can't sub in other players because they were all settling for the jumpers.

Well, unless his players are literally deaf, he can tell them to stop shooting 3 pointers and attack the basket. I thought coaches have some control over the gameplan their players execute.

I'd rather the guys turn the ball over attacking the basket then settling for bad jump shots. They won't get any better doing the latter.

Ummm, they aint finishing 2nd. Florida is much improved as are several of the West teams. The best thing for UT is that the SEC is still terrible at the bottom, and Vandy is gutted.

First, there are no West teams or any divisions anymore. It's one league.

Second, the OP said it looks like we'll finish like we did last year and that was second in the SEC. I didn't say UT would finish there but that I would take finishing second again.

We are three games in and you are bashing the coach really dude? It was a crappy game not a badly coached game. The team wasn't in it from the start so it wouldnt have mattered what the caoch said they werent' going to execute enough to win. It is really that simle sometimes.

Dude, I do not see a lot of "coaching" here. It is a plan to "play hard" and "be tough" which is a better plan for football.

No you wouldn't you would be bashing the coaches for not teaching them how to dibble correctly.

I am just saying you can preach and preach driving the ball to the basket. But when the players get on the court they are the only one in control of what actually happens.

It's one game. In November. Without Maymon. I'm not panicking by any stretch.

What worries me is that the team doesn't look like they've really improved in terms of their offensive sets, with or without Maymon. They still look incredibly lost against a zone defense, still can't feed the post, and still don't attack the basket. It's troubling.

I absolutely, 100% would not. Nothing drives me crazier than lazy offensive sets where guys take bad 3 pointers.

I used to much prefer Hopson driving to the basket rather than him settling for 3 pointers, even though he dribbled it off his foot 50% of the time.

Georgia State's coach used his timeouts while they had no chance to get back in it. I'm not saying he should take them at the end of the game. But, when you are down 10-15 points with 15 minutes to play maybe you should coach like you are trying to win.

Then you sit their azz on the bench and find a player who will do what you tell them to. They'll come around. That's the coach's job.

Roger on that, never quit teaching....a Pearl.

you seem to be trying to get the war started early.you need to keep your feelings to yourself or go cry on your mothers shoulder.

I just now saw this reply back on page 1. Couldn't let it go. You, sir, are a dick.

Don't see how you figured I was trying to start something. Why would I want a war on these boards?

Oh, and read through the game thread. You'll notice I was right. Ass.

That was a big letdown. :bad:

You'd probably lose your house then. You don't judge stuff like that based on one game.

Not sure I have seen anything this year in 3 games that makes me think I am watching a first round NBA pick. Physically he definitely has the body but has not shown any dominate play you typically see in first rounders. Hopefully this changes.

its just one game there is always gonna be ups and downs on the players and the coaches but its just one game we performed like crap shootin wasnt there defense wasnt there nothin was there but thats what practices are for after the games

I just analyzed the stats, we only shot 26% from the field. Sounds like we weren't putting enough effort in on offense execution. We only had five assists so we obviously were not passing very well either and setting each other up

That is what I was saying, they were all shooting it, why bench the better players shooting it for the bench players who are just going to shoot it too!

There is no need to panic. This team is about the same as last year. Obviuosly worse without Maymon. You are looking at a team that is about 5-6 games above .500 and will need some breaks to make tourney. Today was a bad loss, because it is games like these that matter come selection time.

Can we finally dispell the excuses from last year's bad losses being attributed to "getting the players to buy-in"? It's pretty obvious there is a systematic problem.

Just looking at the win-loss column, this wasn't a "bad loss". It's not like losing to a solid OK State team very early in the year is going to be a big RPI killer or be a bad blemish on our NCAA tourney resume. However, actually watching the game definitely left me with more concerns than I had before.

Is a loss to okie state a bad loss? I'm thinking they're gonna be dancing this year, usually a neutral site loss to a NCAA team isn't considered a bad loss.
