Tennessee vs South Carolina Official game thread (6:30 SECN)

He played Estrella who missed a dunk. Let a guy drive by him to the rim then pushed him in the back sending him for 2 free throws, then Estrella made a lay in. A net (-2) points.

Dillione hasn’t produced anything all year with his minutes.

I’d prefer we play the guys that give us the best chance to win and it’s clearly not the freshmen.
Estrella or Awaka? Pretty close.

Split that slot as required. JP is looking pretty good.

We can't get a favorable whistle at home. No way in hades we get anything but bent over at Rupp. Knecht can't score if he's on the bench with fouls or he's being mugged every time he touches the ball. As we saw tonight, Knecht won't beat many SEC teams by himself. We got 20 points from Aidoo, James, Vescovi, Zeigler and Gainey COMBINED. I'll have to trust Barnes judgment that guys like Dillione, Phillips, Carr and even Jefferson aren't ready, but I'm not sure they'd have been that much worse.
Or we got a total of 10 points from ZZZ, JJJ, Aidoo, Mashack, and Gainey. 3 starters and 2 of our top 3 subs.

Disappointed by Aidoo. Dude has to nut up and get it.
Jonas plays weak, he can't hit a the pick and roll unless he is wide open. Any defense an he fumbles the ball out of bounds. Additionally, he is a liability in traffic, can't hold onto the ball if pressed. Then after 6 straight blown plays to open the game he shoots that 5 footer and hits the front of the rim. Terrible start that set the tone for the rest of the game. Sorry, thats the way I see it. Estrella played much stronger when allowed, although he missed a one on none shot from 0 feet, gee.

Good but not Top 5 good.
Really? Gotta get a top ten loss in there to stay in the current narrative. The Deacon has been advised by ADDW that a loss to an unranked team is required to maintain clicks at social media follows…

…any press coverage iz good coverage…

Maybe this was the ego check the team needed.
James needs to pull his head out of his rectum or politely bow out. He has been a head case for the past few weeks.
Nobody else seems to want to play outside of Knecht and 1-2 others. I don’t understand it. Maybe they thought SCjr was gonna come in here and lay down. They had everything to play for- respect and revenge for the beat downs they got last year at the hands of the Vols.
The thing that pisses me off the most is how it seems like the whole team took the night off. The crowd was horrible, the effort was horrible.
I expect more out of a team that is this well-built and they should expect more from themselves.

But which freshman do you want to see?

Dillione has been very underwhelming to me every time he is on the court. He seems a tad too slow, is turnover prone, and doesn't add much to the offense.

I had really high hopes for Cameron Carr and his shooting ability, but when he has gotten an opportunity his defense is lacking and he is forcing up bad shots. He needs another year to get in the weight room.

JP Estrella is getting some rotational minutes, but we need a little more from him offensively if he is going to cut into Aidoo's and Awaka's minutes. Missing a layup today doesn't help.

Cade Phillips has played good defensively too, but he seems the odd man out right now and doesn't add enough offensively either to earn inside minutes.
At this point , not sure. But the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over but expecting a different result.

Dillione has struggled when given the opportunity. I was going to say Carr but if he’s played poorly too then maybe we are out of options. Estrella has given us some min this yr so I’m hopeful he can improve throughout the season w more game experience. We just need more offense from others beyond Knecht.

Not the crowd’s fault that the team was a no show, but it was disappointing that the crowd didn’t sound engaged until we were in desperation mode. Maybe in person it was different, but watching it on tv, it sure seemed like an opera house until the last two minutes of the game. A little bit of fan energy can get a team over the hump sometimes. Not saying that would have happened tonight and not saying the attendees are to blame, but the home court advantage didn’t seem like much of an advantage tonight.

At some point I would like to see Barnes give min to a couple of freshmen. I know he gives minutes based on practice but maybe the younger guys will surprise him.

I’m concerned with the lack of offense from JJJ and the inconsistency of our post play. Knecht looked exhausted and one can’t expect him to go full steam on offense and defense.
We saw a freshman. Missed a damn dunk. I’m pretty sure everyone on the court missed a bunny. It didn’t matter who was going on that court. So out of sync, Tennessee was screwed

We’ve seen enough of Dillione to know the game is too fast for him right now. Estrella is going to be really good and I thought he should have gotten a little more run despite the missed dunk seeing as Aidoo and Awaka weren’t making anything either. Other than him, though, you’ve got Phillips, Carr, and Jefferson. The first two aren’t where Barnes demands players be defensively and Jefferson may or may not be in the dog house still.

I agree. We could have really used him at the free throw today. He is one of our best shooters from the line, so I don't get why he isn't being more agressive. He had 0 FTs today
Drive to the rim… use that Uruguayan wiggle. Barnes has to create a response to when opposing staffs chose to focus on Knecht.

…more home court atmosphere at Memorial in Nashvegas…

To all you guys saying send JJJ to the bench, who else do we have that can play the small ball 4 position and guard a 6’-8” forward? We don’t have another 220 lb guy like him on the roster and If you think Mashack, well he isn’t scoring lately either. Phillips isn’t ready and Awaka can’t play 15 minutes without fouling out. Our options are limited.

Had a lane drive bunnie early, dribble drives the lane multiple times and passed when the lane to the bucket closed. Missed a bunnie in second half.

He’s not just floating the perimeter looking to jack 3’s

Ten minutes…

It was just one of those games, and you could see it right out of the gate with all the missed layups and FT's. You hope to just find a way to gut these out, but we could never get any kind of flow going, due in part to tenacious SC defense, and the hideous officiating certainly didn't help. No need to be on the ledge, just be glad it came in January.

I didn't like that we got away from any kind of offensive sets in the second half and were just going with straight iso with DK. We were getting good looks in the first half, just missing some gimmes, I would rather have stuck with that approach assuming those easy looks would start to drop. Two things that have to improve are defensive rebounding and free throws. Giving teams 2nd chances and missing FT's are sure ways to lose big games.
