Nooo way, wtf. I took about 20 minutes writing out a 7 paragraph synopsis on why but it disappeared. What happened to my post? Lame

I can only guess that the OP left the post blank in hopes of gathering other posters opinions on why UT will win the SEC. It was a poorly conceived idea that was executed badly.

But, putting that out of mind, the opening post is completely accurate in that there is absolutely nothing that can be said that could logically argue that UT will win the SEC next season.

This may sound funny if not "shocking" to some coming from me... but the OP isn't as far-fetched as some of you are claiming.

Who outside of UGA in the East doesn't have significant roster issues? UGA along with UF and Vandy have significant coaching issues.

No one expected Mizzou to challenge this past year but the stars aligned when they played key opponents and they got some plays when they needed them. IMHO, that could happen again if anyone but UGA wins it. If they stay healthy and find a QB then they have to be the favorite.

USCe- Lost key playmakers on both sides of the ball
Mizzou- Same
UF- coaching turmoil, roster issues
UGA- coaching incompetence and QB lost
Vandy/UK- back to the tar pits.

UT's "chances" aren't good because they are necessarily ready for primetime but because there isn't a clear cut favorite. Everyone has problems. We just have a tendency to think our own are the worst.

Also take into account the legacies and their will to win.

Also take into account the legacies and their will to win.

Accounted for... it will make about a .00235% difference in the outcome of the season.

The season hinges on off-season development, system knowledge and integration, talent, and, most importantly, coaching.

Since EVERYONE except UGA has roster issues, Jones can win the East if he's an elite coach. I can (and have) listed the reasons to believe he's not. OTOH, he beat the best coach in the SECE when Worley was healthy and before losing some key guys on D (Saulsberry particularly).

You can pull as many percentages out of your ass you want. I strongly believe that there will be 2-3 freshman All-Americans and 10-15 others will make a major impact. What do you think about that? We will beat OU as well IMO.

It was a joke... lighten up a little.

Those are nice things and the legacy angle helped UT's class tremendously.

Those guys may have hearts of champions too. But you can have that without being legacies. They'll face many opponents who have that factor going for them.

I don't think 2 or 3 will start. I could be wrong. We'll see. I do agree that 10 or 15 will make a big and positive impact. The more they do it as back ups who are brought along at a reasonable pace, the better both they and the program will be.

The JUCO impact could be huge though. Blair and Pearson could be the sum of the difference between being mediocre and VERY good on O. I don't think Weathererd is necessarily a starter over JRM BUT he could make a major, major difference by giving quality depth.

If you lived in Bucksnort, I would agree with you.

I would love to see UT beat OU. If all goes well, I plan to travel down there for the game. That said... that's a very tall order for a team as young as UT will be, on the road, and that early in the season.

If the Vols and their coaches show better than they did vs Bama/Oregon/Mizzou/Auburn then that will be a good sign for the season.

UT wins the SEC this season? Or next?

Again... UT's opportunity is more a function of everyone else having significant issues too. MU was no one's pick last year but things fell into place for them. Everyone in the East has one or more issues that could be fatal to their chances.

My bad. I like to compare this class(mostly the legacies) to the American Revolution and how few conquered many and were not given much of a chance. I also believe that Tennessee players have more heart then say OU or bama players. Some might call it orange colored glasses but I think of it as a bloodline of warriors that are the strongest in the country. It doesn't make sense to me that people would be happy with 6-6 or 7-5, That's just not good enough, period.

Don't see the French coming to UT's aid any time soon....

Meh , Tee's comment is the exact reaction we have whenever we miss out on a big recruit, "Didn't want him anyway".

My buddy and I have NCAA Football 13 for XBox 360. We downloaded the most recent rosters, changed the names and positions, and went through the season on 3 minute quarters. These were our results:

vs Utah State W 28-7
vs Arkansas State W 28-7
at Oklahoma W 41-33*
at Georgia W 40-37 4 OT
vs Florida W 14-13
vs Tennessee-Chattanooga W 34-25 (we were watching the Walking Dead, whoops)
at Ole Miss W 28-14
vs Alabama L 0-7
at South Carolina L 22-31
vs Kentucky W 21-14
vs Mizzou W 28-21
at Vanderbilt W 22-14
*We played OU on 5 minute quarters

Regular season began with Ferguson at QB. After trailing 31-0 at halftime vs USCjr, we played Dobbs and he almost led the improbable comeback. He started the final 3 games. Because North, Malone, Pearson, Pig, etc drew defenders, Creamer, Helm, Branisel, Etc got tons of receiving yards over the middle. Sutton, Weatherd, AJ, Curt, Randolph, etc were total head hunters. Medley was legit. We decided that at a 10-2 (6-2) record, we could make the SECCG with SC losing to A&M, Auburn, & Mizzou. Mizzou losing to UGA and us, and UGA losing to SCjr and us. Rematching Bama in ATL.

SECCG vs Alabama W 14-7

Dobbs got injured early and Fergie redeemed himself for SCjr game with a late TD run to win it. We figured being SEC champs and beating previously undefeated Bama could make us a 4 seed in the new playoffs. We then factored in SEC bias and decided the seeds would be

1. Florida State
2. Michigan State
3. Tennessee
4. Alabama (because "it's Alabama")
We'd play Mich St in the Rose Bowl (semifinal west) with Bama and FSU playing in the Sugar Bowl (semifinal east).

Semifinal game vs #2 Michigan State W 34-10

We just assumed Saban would beat FSU

CFPNCG vs #2 Alabama W 21-20

Down 20-14, Josh Malone caught a 77 yard TD pass with under a minute left. Brian Randolph tackled Amari Cooper at the 2 on a Hail Mary pass as time expired to seal the 1 pt Title game win.

If only, right? First BCS, first playoff. Lol. I'll be happy with 7 wins this year.

TL;DR version: video game said we can go 10-2, win the SEC, win the natty, and I wish I could believe it

We are rebuilding. Folks need to temper expectations. One recruiting class is winning the sec. I don't care how good that class is. A group of true freshman aren't coming in and dominating in the toughest conf in America. The ones saying we will compete for the sec this year are the same ones who will be first in line to scram for coach's heads when we don't

If Butch fields a freshman laden team that takes down the Sooners, there won't be enough toilet paper in Tuscaloosa County to clean up the mess that would happen there. They'd either forfeit the UT game or lose 4-5 games due to holding back all starters to be ready to play a game showing the UT vs. UO victory wasn't anything special.

There's folks here who can't understand that because they refuse to. I'd love to see them tower above common sense expectations. But the SEC isn't called NFLjr for nothing. And rookies will play like rookies.

Guess that settles it..
Not the 2014 season part..
The part where I pondered if you had a job.
