Tennessee's recruiting class may end up #1 (merged)

He may be considered a project by you but he was most accurate at Elite 11 and he is going to be in under Kiffins wing starting 3 months from now.

I think he will be stronger than Jacory at Miami by next Fall and I would not be surprised to see him succeed as a medium level guy.

Freshman mistakes from a good talent will be a big improvement on Crompton's play this year.

true, i just feel kind of scared about the QB situation. bray is a project and is not going to be ready as a true freshman and stevens is crompton jr. but it sounds like we are going to get some great OL and DL. hopefully we can grab a couple more LBs and maybe a couple more playmakers.

No one knows that for sure...we will see...he is an ee so that helps a ton. And there are a lot of freshman qb's that start and have successful freshman years. Barkley and michigans qb look good (forcier?) There is one every year...

Vegas, while I agree with your position and am hoping for Bray to look very good next year, Barkley is considered an incredible rarity because he is looking strong as a true freshman in a pro style offense.

Tate Forcier and others who look great early are often running around a lot.

Barkley, Forcier, UCLA's Prince and nearly every other Fr. QB I've seen start recently would have put us in position to beat UF.

Vols fans should be relieved after this game. Kiffin proved that he can gameplan and make use of the defense enough to win even with limited QB play. Once Bray or whoever comes along we will be a powerhouse.

Bray should be leaps and bounds better than Crompton after Offseason Conditioning and studying the playbook, Spring Practice, Summer Workouts/more studying playbook and then a Fall Camp. Just think what a 6'6, accurate QB with a cannon for an arm and lots of bigger/faster WRs would have done against UF on Sat?

I just hope that several of our top OL are EE and that we get Cullen out of JUCO. I have plenty of faith that our coaching staff will have even Fr. OL ready to play ball very quickly. Look what they've done with our OL and running game after what they've looked like last year.

No matter where they rank this class in the team rankings, I think we can say it will be the best possible class they could have assembled. That's good enough in my book and it's something I don't think we could have said any other year I've followed recruiting.

I wouldn't trade this group of athletes for any other and I think results will show this to be as good as any other class in the nation down the road.

If I were a betting man, I'd say Bray will be the starter (growing pains and all)...unless we bring in Cam Newton, who I honestly believe is the best short term solution we could have. It doesn't hurt that he's a big dude with wheels (and could be converted to a WR or TE if needed).
No Newton, and it's Bray all the way.

Sab, how do you think Nuke and Teague are feeling? Havent seen them the last two games?

Nuke had some time on ST in the UCLA game; obviously Crompton would have to be able to complete a pass for Teague to get noticed. As for Saturday, I'd say Kiffin did a smart thing in keeping those two off the field considering we plucked both of them from the Gators. Not that I think they couldn't get the job done, but we've seen Nuke have trouble w/ bobbles at home just imagine what he'd do in the Swamp. As the year progresses, and if Crompton can get his head right, you'll begin to see these two make an impact.

I agree that Bray will be able to play next year. Just about any high school QB could of made the throws that Crompton made on Sat. Did he ever throw the ball down the field more than 10 yards? As much as Kiffin is babying Crompton, I truely believe Kiffin could bring Bray along in the same fashion. Believe me, Bray will start next year. Take it too the bank.

Yes, it was picked.

Broussard whether by grades, LSU or another school does not make it in this class and Pair "decommits" once the staff shows the OL depth chart.

That means we have 8 slots left.

Candidates
Cullen, J James, D Robinson, M Moses others on the OL including hard UF targets

LB Luc, Fortt, Shirley

Safety and CB Riggs, Riley, Wright, Shaw

Vader, I put candidates. I do not believe for a moment we get all of the guys I listed as candidates.

We will sign 28, and we have 21 right now. If Broussard and Pair decommit, we can sign 9 right to get to 28.

You are saying we can backcount 2 and sign 30 because 2 in the current class will be EE? That means if we get the decommits, we could sign 11 more.

11 more!
Kids we know we want and would be happy to take include
Stills at WR
Ego and Powell at DE
One RB, either Gio Bernard, Lattimore, Dyer etc.
LOTS of OL from the group of Morgan Moses (still a UVA commit and may remain one until Groh is fired), John Cullen (says Utah is leading but he prefers pro style, I think he should be penciled in as part of our class), TJ Leifheit (who UNC leads for but who we are behind at 2), Arie K (who most seem to say we are out of it with and who many claim will end up at Miami with Ego), JaWuan James (I think like Cullen he is ours), James Stone (who you hear Vandy about and Bama about but who we are in the top 3 of certainly) and Damien Robinson (we lead but fighting Bama and Miss schools).

In the secondary we probably only take 1 Safety and 1 DB but we are choosing from an elite group including Riggs, Riley, Wright and Shaw. We also are still pursuing some highly ranked guys here who never get written about.

Final 11 slots in my decommit scenario we take 4 OL (but only +3 losing MP)
We take 1-2 DT (but only even or +1 losing Broussard)
we take 2 secondary members maximum
we take 1 RB
we take 1 WR
we take 2 LB.

I do not think we take a backup QB, even though my free opinion that we should take Cam Newton even if he ends up a TE does not seem shared by the staff.

I do not think we take another TE.

When you think about Myles, B Brown, J Jackson, Nuke and Teague and think the staff had so little time last year, I say that you make a guessing wish list for LB, DT and secondary and you end up guessing right on some guys. Shoot I was mocked for saying we could end up with the Byrnes boys, and I had no inside info, just a visit schedule.

I know I said we would take Ego or Powell at DE, I just do not see us getting either which is why I left that off the list for how we finish.

Casey Clausen came in early and was a 4 year starter and Bray can be the same way. This class and future classes will be better than Clausen ever played with. We will spank em starting next year.

Is that assuming that 3 of them don't make it in?

Yea, they would have to either be placed in JUCO or Prep or they would have to be greyshirted. If we sign 30 players, I think we would be lucky if only 3 of them didn't make it in. Getting by the clearinghouse is tough...

Most of the talk about what school will finish with the nation's top class has been focused on Texas and Alabama, but a team to watch out for is Tennessee. The Volunteers have already cemented themselves a spot in the top five and should climb even higher over the next couple of weeks, especially if they continue to add standouts like four-star offensive lineman Jawuan James. The 6-6, 293-pound James on Tuesday committed to the Vols over Georgia.

- Jeremy Crabtree...

O-Linemen are generally underrated as far as recruiting services go. They aren't as "sexy" as DB's, LB's or skill positions on offense. I think we end up top 3, but I wouldn't be surprised in the least, at this point, if we had the top class.

Of course, we won't truly know if we have the best class for another 3 years. There will be underrated, productive players as well as busts in every class. I think where we end up is irrelevant. We're coming on both on and off the field and thats all that matters.
