I'd say CLT and CCS will have a strong say in who they want at LB and DL.

I think you are correct that the position coaches will have a strong say in who they want and Wilcox would be wise to listen to the two you listed especially. I was just commenting on the "Chiefly" part of the OP's post. Wilcox probably has a certain type of player he wants in his system. Kinda like Chief liking the smaller faster lb's back in the day.

agreed tim.

i don't see Wilcox overturning a choice of CLTs at LB though.

I just don't see Wilcox being the guy everyone is looking to for answers, almost everyone else on the staff is older then him and has more experience. Don't get me wrong I like him as our DC, I just see our defense being more of a collective effort, especially in the recruiting arena. I may be wrong though, maybe he comes in and takes charge...

No doubt, almost any coach can coach running backs or wide receivers. Quarterbacks and O-line is where you have to have really knowledgeable coaches, the other two are usually were your best recruiters are coaching. Chaney will have no problem switching to running backs, I just wonder how good Hinshaw will be with QBs...

I think Hinshaw will be fine. He has coached QB before and been an offensive coordinator. He also put up big numbers as QB in college. Dooley must have thought he was a good up and coming coach. It has to be an upgrade over David Reaves. I hear he wasn't too good and it was when Kiffin got more involved with Crompton is when he improved.

I hate to say it but I think alot of us have developed opinions of what a staff should be based on listening to Kiffin. Why a bunch of intelligent fans would care about what that idiot says is beyond me. He sold us on the fact that we had the best staff in America, which is definitely Kool-Aid drinking on our part. Other than Monte and maybe Orgeron I can think of better coaches at every position. We filled out the staff with a couple of no names and he convinced us they were the best, and we even fretted over losing them. I like where we are now, a "staff is a team, everyone plays a role" approach. I commend Kiffin for hiring Chaney and Thompson, I think they will continue to do well under the new regime. I am especially excited about Chaney, I think he brings alot to the table, he was essentially a figurehead last year.

I think Kiffin was right. We did have the best staff in the country, top to bottom. There's a reason everybody was after them.

Hello everybody...first time poster long time listener. Yea i thought the same thing about the RC at first but i believe that title does go to the most organized and creative staff member.

I'm not even sure that recruiting has anything to do with this age/experience relationship.

I think if Baggett wanted a receiver, Chaney's input would be limited to nil unless he lived where Chaney recruits.

I think they are all sent looking for the best talent, then the defensive coaches look at tape and make a collective decision, then CLT is sent to reel em in. :)

Welcome to the nation. I'm still mostly a lurker. I'm on here reading all day and hardly ever post either. I might make my 1000th by the 2014 in your username LOL

Surely you do not think Willy Mack Garza was the best DB coach in America. He and Frank Wilson were added at the end for minimal $$$$ because we spent so much elsewhere. Neither have an impressive resume. Wilson is an up and comer, but he certainly doesn't have the resume of his replacement Kippy Brown, and now Baggett.

Frank Wilson was the reason we had possibly the #1 DT Anthony Johnson commit to us. He was underrated in my opinion. Our WR's performed pretty well considering their talent level compared to the rest of the SEC.

I am very afraid UGA or Auburn or some southern school is going to outbid us and snag Lance Thompson next year. That is one reason why I think Joseph is the RC because Dooley can trust him
