the previous staff was just all around better. its as simple as that.

There's no way you can say that right now.

HC, OC, WR, LB are as good or better.

New DC was statistically better than Monte last year, but Monte's name in recruiting was a tremendous help.

But this staff has not held a practice. Its not possible to make that statement yet.

I think you are right, name recognition the other staff was better. What if this staff takes us to an 8 or 9 win season next year including a bowl? I think we should just wait and see.

We were talking about recruiting. It has yet to be seen if they can coach like last year's staff, but man for man, nobody had a better recruiting staff than we did under Kiffin. As of this moment, I don't see a single coach who is better than the previous coach at that position as a recruiter. Let's not kid ourselves.

Frank Wilson was the reason we had possibly the #1 DT Anthony Johnson commit to us. He was underrated in my opinion. Our WR's performed pretty well considering their talent level compared to the rest of the SEC.

I am very afraid UGA or Auburn or some southern school is going to outbid us and snag Lance Thompson next year. That is one reason why I think Joseph is the RC because Dooley can trust him

Being a relative of a top DT doesn't make you a great recruiter, it's makes you lucky.... Not saying Wilson is or isn't a good coach/recruiter, but basing it off the fact that he got a committment from a member of his own family is a bit much

yeah, i wish Eddie Gran hadn't bolted (though you can't blame him now) - I think he would have meshed really well with DD.

I'm sure as long as LT is getting the appropriate $$$, he doesn't care what his title is.

No doubt, almost any coach can coach running backs or wide receivers. Quarterbacks and O-line is where you have to have really knowledgeable coaches, the other two are usually were your best recruiters are coaching. Chaney will have no problem switching to running backs, I just wonder how good Hinshaw will be with QBs...

Considering Hinshaw was one of the most prolific QB's in D I-AA at his time and Chaney has NEVER coached QB's I believe it makes sense for Hinshaw to be where he is and he will do just fine. Everyone is getting caught up on Chaney's time at Purdue and with Brees and Orton, he was the OC calling the plays but he wasn't the one mentoring and tutoring them one on one on a daily basis, he was busy with the OL.

I agree, but knowing what we know now, the only departed coach from the last staff I would like back is Eddie Gran

I would like to have Frank Wilson as well, just not at WR coach seeing as how Baggett is a HUGE upgrade. As far as recruiting the old staff was the shiznit, and we always had something to look foward to seeing something new everytime we signed on volnation, I as well as many on here am going to miss that. I am glad we got Dooley under the shi*ty circumstances we we're dealt though.

I find it funny that everyone thinks Lance Thompson should be the RC or DC or both....has anyone stopped to  think that maybe he likes his role that he has just fine?

Exactly. He may get a raise as it is and not have to take any extra responsibility. I am glad to have such an excellent recruiter as a non Coordinator

In response to several posts in this thread:

1. The recruiting coordinator position requires a lot of administrative time. It is best that CLT focus on recruiting and coaching.

2. CDD can certainly trust CLT. They coached together in the past at LSU.

3. Think back a year or more ago when Kiffin was hiring his staff...How many of us really had heard of Garza, F. Wilson, Chaney, or Cregg. Not many of us. The only big names that he hired were his Dad and Orgeron. Some of these coaches that CDD has hired actually have more coaching experience than our previous staff, so give them a chance.

I think CLT deserves it, but good point that it will give him more time to actually recruit. May be a stupid question but is there a bump in pay for being the RC.

I think you're underestimating what Chaney did for Purdue and Brees.

You do understand that it's not really considered a prestige position? It's usually one of the junior staff members who is a good organizer. The coordinator is usually a good recruiter because most good recruiters will tell you the number one characteristic of a good recruiter is organization.
