He goes to Texas and Kirby Smart will take over at bama....don't know why Bama fans are mad unless they don't believe in Smart...but Bama cannot compete with Texas when it comes to money and everything else Texas can offer....if you think they can you're delusional

Unlike ours, Bama's boosters step up. They wouldn't let money be an issue.

Texas could make him the first $10 million per year coach. Anyone would at least listen to that.

So $10 million for the coach. And another $3.6 million for staff according to this link.

So Saban gets 10, staff gets another 3.5 or more since he'll start hiring some other talent and it'll cost.

So probably $14-15 million just on staff alone. Not seeing it. Nobody is going to spend a minimum of $13.5 million even if it is Saban.

ETA: Just looked up the Alabama coaching salaries. Right now Bama staff is making $4.93 million a year. So let's figure Saban will insist on that much for the staff at Texas. That figure I said would be closer to $15 million.

And again, nobody is going to pay that.

As a UA fan I would be unhappy but at the same time be happy. Would hate to see Saban go but where UA is we could hire any coach in the country with what they would be able to walk into with the talent on the roster. After the meltdowns by the fan base the sun would still be shining. Saban will be gone at some point why not while UA is still on top not on the way down.

There is a 0.00% chance they offer 10 mill.

If that is what it took to get Saban, they COULD. Texas is the most football crazy state and they have more money than any university around. The offer would probably be closer to 7.5, but if it took it Texas could offer a cool 10 mill and not bat an eyelash.

They won't though, that's the thing.

(plus there's the cost of the rest of his coaching staff so $4-5 mil more than that)

Again, don't mistake 'could' with 'would'. They are not going to offer the highest paid college coach an 82% raise. They aren't going to pay a college coach 2 million more than the highest paid pro coach.

As you said, they might offer 7 to 7.5. But Alabama would match that without a second thought. Texas is, by far, the most profitable athletic department in the country. But Bama is still Top 5.

All very good points. Whoever gets the Texas job will most likely be at least the second highest paid coach on CFB. They will get a big name. It must be nice to have an athletic dept just oozing money...

Although I think he stays put, anything out of Saban's mouth concerning new jobs is just about worthless.

So FWIW...not a whole lot.

Absolute worst case I can see for bama if any of this is true is that they will need to pony up more money.

The best coach at the mecca of college football, at the flagship university in the SEC. Keep dreaming.

WTF are you talking about?

Keep dreaming exactly what? I don't think he's going anywhere.

Not convincing enough. Not about the money and it's not about the past, it's about being at Alabama. That's what I'm talking about.

You think Saban is at Bama because its Bama, money wouldn't be an issue?

Just trying to confirm the delusional stupidity I'm hearing.

Then enjoy the reality of year seven under the Saban regime at the university of Alabama. Our specialty this season will be going for a rousing three-peat and 4th championship in the past 5 seasons. This will all be occurring as you find yourself more than a few bricks short of past fulmer glory.

I don't think he's going anywhere, but I also don't think that's because he's just so in love with Alabama.

SIAP:
This quote is pure gold.

Joe Jamail, a billionaire trial lawyer who is one of the top donors to Texas, is [Mack] Brown's attorney. When asked about the conference call with Sexton and the lunch meeting, Jamail suggested Hall was acting on his own and threatened to sue anyone outside the university if they try to pressure Brown to resign.

"If there are any more, get ready for a lawsuit," Jamail said. "Mack has publicly stated he wants to coach."

Fun facts: Alabama is also winning the College Football Championships to Teeth Ratio by a stunning margin. It is now up to 1.4 titles per tooth. With a title this year they would also match the average IQ of their residents who post on the message boards of conference rivals.
