Thank God we dodged that bullet!

I agree. Gruden and ESPN I dont welcome in Tennessee. Gruden watched this fake thread grow and said nothing. You folks want to be angry then turn it toward Gruden and ESPN. I also rebuke Mr Hart for being slow to see it and saying nothing. Bring us a real coach not a pansy arse espn commentator. Strong or Fedora.

I dont rebuke Hart at all. In fact, I applaud him. Unlike his predecessor he didnt cave to the whims of the crying fanaticals chosing to proceed as the director of a corporation protecting the best interest of the business.

Yea! We didn't want him anyway! Coach X is way better, he has more heart, talent isn't everything! or something like that....did i do that right?

I was expecting this. After 8 million posts about Gruden being the only good candidate, now people saying they didn't want him anyway! Lol

yeah... Who the heck wants a super bowl winning coach who'd bring a boatload of great assistants with him to revive a flatlined UT program.... Not to mention the raft of talent he'd get to come here... Sheesh!

I liked this cause you are exactly right.. this is why it hurts so much.. my soul, my mood.etc. hell maybe i need to get a life besides tennessee football, but he would of made us relevant quick, and brought in top recruits this year, just off of who he is, and now i feel we will never get back to where we used to be..

Seriously, gruden?! Decent analyst not so great coach. We deserve better than just name recognition... Charlie Strong, Jimbo Fisher or if we did want to go after a NFL coach, Bill Cowher (not likely) but let's reach for the stars. But seriously i can't believe how people were going bananas over gruden. Dude is a joke.

Can't say I disagree with you

Thing is, even if Gruden failed here. The roster would be absolutely stacked for the next coach. His name alone was worth top 5 recruiting classes the next 3 years.

Yeah Id rather have a coach who at best is big east co-champions than a super bowl champion. Recruits love Belk Bowl appearances.

I don't think you fully understand the dynamic of what is happening here. The program is floundering. It needs to be ENERGIZED!!

There is no doubt in my my mind that there are coaches out there that can rebuild this program not named Gruden. But, you could run photos of the general, Paul Bryant, Vince Lombardi and Knute Rockne through the Weird Science computer (forgive the bad 80s reference) and come up with a super coach, and he would not provide what is needed right now.

While super coach is chipping away, he's 25-30 million dollars behind in revenues where JG would be because if the university hired JG, you can almost bank on selling out the first season and going from there. His star power is worth a LOT of money and recruits early.

Almost anyone else is going to have to earn their way.

They don't understand because he won a Super Bowl with dungys team when he couldn't and got screwed with the raiders because of the tuck play but he's not a good coach

I believe his giant ego is a good thing. He wouldn't let his name be associated with failure at the college level. I think his main priority would be being better than Nick Saban, it would be what he lived for.

Agreed! That's exactly what we need right now! This second!

I keep seeing this repeated but what is it based on? Would recruits throw their panties at Gruden simply by virtue of him being a "Rock Star"? If youre an elite recruit whos had Les Miles, Saban and Spurrier talk to you in your living room, are you really going to be blown away by the mere presence Gruden?
