Thanksgiving Boycott

do you always take the tack of posting in a passive aggressive manner like a 16 yr old girl?

clearly your forum of choice has sapped any originality out of your responses. You should go back to posting bigoted replies about minorities in a place where someone finds you amusing

smh...I'm done with you. FTR, I did enjoy the kitchen remodeling thread you had.

appreciate that

it does appear you've lost your sense of humor since then though. You don't have to be on the attack in the Pub

Did anyone stop to think that maybe these individuals value making some money that they need to provide for their families over spending money on a huge meal? I would be interested what the opposite sides viewpoint is.

Well, I was talking more about the walmart cashiers and minimum wage folks who probably need the money even though it meant working during the holidays. In my situation for example I could care less about Thanksgiving and would rather work. Just another day to me where I don't have to deal with some of the idiots in the family.

The boycott Thanksgiving crowd hasn't stopped to think about this for one second. They see it as an opportunity to make themselves look compassionate, or sympathetic, and clever when, in actuality, they couldn't care less what your needs and desires are. Just another example of a group of people thinking they know what's best for others without even knowing their situation.

Is this like a major movement on Facebook or something? Other than this thread and your passionate rally against the so-called boycott I've heard nothing about it.

I've seen quite a few posts on Facebook about it.

Just curious. I'm not on FB. I asked my wife about it. She said she hadn't noticed it.

Are people going on and on about it or simply circulating that graphic then moving on? I really don't see the problem with calling for people to vote with their wallets. It's not like they are calling for some government intervention. Grand scheme of things the people that are circulating it probably wouldn't go shopping on TG regardless. I doubt it will change many minds.

Personally, it has less to do with people working and more to do with how Thanksgiving is essentially being shoved aside to get the capitalist Christmas season rolling earlier and earlier.

You can say that's illogical and not consistent but I'm just human and that's just how I feel.

There are a couple of fan pages with thousands of members. They post the name of a store that's opening on TG, and the fans bomb their Facebook pages.

A little bit of both.

I hate Christmas. I really hate that it basically begins earlier every year.

Read an interesting article about this last night. I didn't realize that Thanksgiving is later than usual thus shortening the shopping season by 6 days which traditionally kicks off on Black Friday. I guess that is a rational reason for retail to want an extra day.

However, my fear is that the precedent has now been set and shopping on Thanksgiving will be the norm going forward.

Oh well. Retail is one of the LAST industries to get on the "work thanksgiving" train. Welcome to the 1900s.

I always enjoyed the time and a half working on Thanksgiving, my family just planned for the feast to be either before or after I went to work. Got paid double time to work from 8-midnight on Christmas Eve too. That check was always nice as a poor college kid.
