That Punt!

You got me. The options were:
1. Safety (the correct call)
2. Incomplete pass (I didn’t think it was but I would’ve understood this more than option 3)
3. We got out of the end zone and it was 4th down. (This one clearly didn’t happen per the replays so I was shocked this was the result)

Basically if it isn’t clear evidence that the refs missed the call - they will stick with what they called on the field.

Speaking of the safety. How did the refs conclude that wasn’t a safety?

I’m with you on that but it was clear as could be from the replays they showed.

The never said what they decided, which is why what I said is the only explanation in my mind. Clearly he was down in the end zone, so they couldn't have possibly said he got out. You're right though, it was an incredibly strange play

Based on their spotting of the ball it looks like they decided it was a fumble. It was all bizarre.

I agree on the punt. Very pivotal play. Put us in a hole field position wise but not being able to do anything at that point I think rattled us. We will learn from it. Still feel good about this group of coaches and young men representing us.

Kick came from the 24 yard line, Dee was setup 45 yards away, on the 30 which is normal. The ball landed at the 17 which was almost 60 yards in the air. Dee could have tried to catch it facing the end zone, but that is a big no-no also.

It was just a magnificent kick

coaches are becoming huge data gurus, but I really think this safety v punt w/ no room is something that hasn't been looked at more. So many teams might be so much better off just taking that step backwards and punting unopposed from the 20 yd line.

I was thinking this as well. A punt of 40 yards from the 20 puts it at the 40. I also wonder if they change the rule regarding the option of a punt vs place kicking the ball vs a drop kick.

It means they decided the video evidence was not convincing enough
It wa pretty evident the o lineman was down before the ball broke the plane and before the ball was fumbled. The question really should have been forward pass or fumble

I know. Just saying what they decided. It was in our favor IMO. Punting after a safety also leads to bad field position.

They just said stands, which means they went with the call on the field (which was down at the 1).
Maybe they couldn’t make the call on forward pass or not and just defaulted to the (obviously wrong) call on the field? Really weird.

I know. I was laughing at the time about it, because it was a terrible call, and instead of explaining it they just said "play stands". But more importantly Hooker cant hold the ball that long (story of the game) in the end zone.

Yeah. For some reason he doesn't like to throw it away that often

I think that whole punt sequence got us really rattled and don’t think we could get past it. Then we stop them and hooker forced the throw to Tillman for the pick. Hard for us to recover from those things. Turning points of the game for me.
Yes, the punt, the off sides penalties…death by 1000 cuts. The one critical thing of JH offense is don’t get behind the chains. To me that’s on the coaches… think they thought, even mentioned that crowd noise for our offense was minor thing…it wasn’t…just like it wasn’t for Bama. Our first best chance to win was to play a clean game. UGA is a better team. No shame in the loss. We could have played better but UGA had a lot to do with it. We are 8-1 with plenty left to play for

Yeah, I was hoping it would be called a safety, and you see why.
